Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Wells
Hi Aidan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Bek and I met through mutual friends a few years back and began hanging out to write or just play some music. It wasn’t ’til we took a trip to St. Augustine that we wrote our first song, “Never Found”, while camping out in my old van for a few days. We realized we worked well together and decided we’d start a band alongside our drummer at the time. As time went on and some things changed, of course we began working with new people: our bassist, Leaf, and our drummer, Jeremy. We’ve written an album’s worth of music for the band itself, despite only having a few singles out.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not exactly. Covid changed a lot. It used to be fairly easy to get gigs or work with other people, and I think Covid restrictions really changed the way people work indefinitely. We live in an area that isn’t art or music oriented. Creativity isn’t valued. Unless if you’re looking to play at a bar, or if you’re into reggae. We take what we get though, because we enjoy it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I (Aidan) am currently working on recording an EP on an old tape machine that will be released under Paavana. I have had the urge to complete a folk/acoustic EP for a few years, so that’s what I’m currently focusing on doing. I’ve already completed a single off of this EP that is out on streaming platforms already. We have quite a few recorded songs in the vault that we are holding on to as demos, that I will eventually record professionally or just give up on them completely. We do everything our selves, write everything ourselves, and record everything ourselves, so it takes a lot of time, energy, and resources. Hopefully in the future, that can change and become a more consistent and stream-lined process.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was your typical loner type. I kept to myself, although I was relatively popular and had lots of friends. I skipped half the school year at my over populated high school, none of the teachers cared, and it was pretty much just a fun and formidable time. In my childhood I was very happy, polite and goofy but quickly got smacked by the immeasurable weight of the world. I turned into an edgy kid that only listened to metal. Now I hate metal.
I (Bek) grew up in a homeschooling Christian household. My parents were very supportive of what I wanted to do artistically. I was juggling becoming a worship pastor and a secular singer/songwriter. It didn’t mesh too well. Certain people in the church didn’t like what I was doing on the side with music, but I was pretty determined by getting my following up on social media and auditioning for shows like The Four, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent. Shows weren’t my main goal however. Eventually, the strain between church life and my personal life became too much and I dropped both altogether until I met Aidan a few years later. He helped in inspiring me to pick music back up again.
