Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacuzzi Fuzz
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Jacuzzi Fuzz was born in the vibrant melting pot of Miami, Florida—a city where cultures, rhythms, and genres blend seamlessly. Our music is a direct reflection of this environment: a fusion of Latin roots, reggae riddims, hip-hop beats, and edgy punk rock. Starting in 2002 as a three-piece, we were inspired by the sounds of 80s and 90s punk rock, roots reggae, and a thriving local hardcore scene, along with the Latin music that surrounded us. Founding members Andy Clavijo (vocals, guitar) and Johnny Colorado (drums, percussion) were determined to shake things up, playing anywhere from house parties to dive bars, until bigger venues began to take notice.
Over the years, we’ve grown and evolved, but the heart of Jacuzzi Fuzz remains the same. After early releases like Mourning Miami (2007) and The Best Worst-Case Scenario (2009), our recent focus has been on producing new music that stays true to our roots. In the past two years, we’ve released six singles, including All it Took and Transparent in 2023, and four more in 2024: Singin’ in the Rain, Sailin’ On (Bad Brains cover), Hola Buenos Dias, and Hola Buenos Dub (a collaboration with dub artist Tómalo).
Today, our lineup is stronger than ever, featuring talented new musicians and skilled horn players who bring our sound to life. Though we’re selective with our shows, every performance is a chance to connect deeply with our fans and showcase our unique sound.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth. The pandemic slowed our momentum, forcing us to step back from live shows. We shifted to creating and sharing music online while pre-producing new material. Losing beloved Miami venues like Churchill’s Pub and Las Rosas was tough, as these were the heart of our local scene. Time is also a constant challenge—balancing personal lives with our passion for music isn’t easy, but our commitment keeps us going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our mission has always been to make the music we love—music that nods to the punk rock, reggae, and Latin rhythms that shaped us. We’ve never chased trends; instead, we stay true to our roots, letting our influences guide us organically. Recent releases like Hola Buenos Dias and Hola Buenos Dub showcase our growth and dedication to quality music, while covers like Sailin’ On by Bad Brains and Singin’ in the Rain highlight our versatility and love for blending genres. Known for our tenacity, we’ve been playing, recording, and putting out music for over 20 years, building a solid reputation in Miami and beyond.
We’re especially proud of our sound, the unique blend of genres we’ve honed, and the unwavering passion that’s kept us going while others have come and gone. Jacuzzi Fuzz is here for the love of the music, and that love drives everything we do.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We owe a lot to our families for their support and patience. Special thanks to Gabriel Luis Reyes for his photography, and our engineers Ferny Coipel, Danny Kalb, and Luis Rego for helping bring our sound to life. Big thanks to Justin Gray from Burn to Build as well—he’s brought our wildest illustration ideas to life and made them even better than we could have imagined. And of course, endless gratitude to our friends, family, fans, and other local bands and promoters who keep Miami’s music scene alive. We’ll also take this moment to shout out our friends Fuakata who have helped us with some recent gigs, and are a driving force in the ska/punk scene.
