Today we’d like to introduce you to Germán Augusto Rodríguez Laverde
Hi Germán Augusto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Germán Rodriguez Laverde, and I am a cinematographer with 12 years of experience in the audiovisual industry. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of earning both national and international recognition, including two consecutive wins at Cannes Lions and a second-place finish at The Independent Photographer. This year, our team achieved several awards in advertising for a campaign we filmed.
In my home country of Colombia, I went through a life-altering experience that, despite its chaos, has become a source of deep gratitude. I survived an accident that nearly took my life, and from that moment on, I committed myself to pursuing my dreams. It’s this journey that has driven me to become a prominent figure in the world of photography, dedicated to leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like everything in life, I feel that no path is easy. Often, you lose your way, things become unclear, and sometimes you have no idea if you’re doing it right. But the path of creativity is like faith—you just have to keep moving forward.

I feel that my journey as a photographer began with the context in which I was born—a country full of visual potential with everything that surrounds us. Sensitivity is a core part of my work, and finding those unique souls that are captured not only through a photo but also in moving images is what drives me. What sets me apart from others? I believe it’s my ability to find spontaneity in every situation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Working in my industry is a blessing; I don’t believe it’s a matter of luck.
