Life & Work with Camila Chica of Miami, Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Chica

Hi Camila, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in a small town in Colombia, since I was a kid I remember I used to watch novelas with my grandma and always had this dream of being a journalist and being on television 📺
When I finish high school I move to Cali where I studied journalism and my dream of becoming a reporter and tv host come true, I was very passionate for this profession and I really enjoyed my years in university and the work that I did for the newscast of the city!
In the other hand I started modeling when I was 21, in my mind I never thought about being a model, but when I started I just want more!
Learning how to talk, walk, pose and have security about myself was the thing that I most like about modeling.
I finish the university in 2020. And in 2022 I received a job offer from a digital media in Monterrey to cover elections in Nuevo León, this was a very good opportunity for me and I move to México.
Living there my friends from work encourage me to start creating content on social media, which I started to do it, and this is something that I love to do, because I love fashion, makeup and self care.
I started growing my following on social media and collaborating with brands which is something that I didn’t know about.
For me social media has opened a lot of opportunities in my life, and I can explore my creativity and do any kind of content.
In 2022 I move to Miami with the intention of continuing growing in modeling and as a content creator.
This years have been no easy but I feel happy with all the things that I have accomplished and what I’m doing right now, when I move to the United States for me was a dream come true, and I feel that I have the opportunity to grow as a model and also as a person.
I have collaborate with brands that I love and this is where yo can see the years of work behind.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to say that I love Colombia, but for me was no a safe place, for my work as a journalist and just as a civilian is no the kind of country where you have freedom.
I think there’s no freedom of the press and is no safety.
Being an emigrant is also no the easiest thing, but I definitely prefer being able to have a new life with all that it’s included with that.
I also would say that when I started doing social media being seen and criticized by others was no easy, but now days I feel that I don’t pay to much attention to what people say.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Model and content creator

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say patience and determination. Also trust in myself.
