Life & Work with Barbara Perez of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Perez

Hi Barbara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi!

My name is Barbara Perez, I’m a beauty content creator who was born and raised in Venezuela, I’m 26 years old and even though I graduated as a psychologist in 2020 my true passion has always been creating art through makeup and sharing it with people that might enjoy it.

I grew up watching beauty tutorials on YouTube and it fascinated me, 2016 I started learning and experimenting with makeup but was always too afraid of creating my account, I think it was because if I started it then it would have two outcomes: success or failure, but I decided on doing it and on October of 2018 I posted my first makeup look, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that I became more constant and that I grew my audience, at the moment I can say that organically I’ve amassed an audience of over 1.2M followers on my social media, I believe people connect with me because every video has a purpose and its filled with my personality, I believe my content feels and is very authentic.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think I’ve been very lucky to have strong support from my family and friends who have helped me to believe in myself, I think the biggest struggles lie within myself, I’m my own worst and harshest critic, and I tend to look at everything I do and see how it could be better, that’s a double edge sword, in a way it makes me a better artist and in another it makes me very self-conscious.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do everything related to beauty with a twist, I believe that a lot of people nowadays want to have a platform but not a lot of people are willing to put in the effort that it takes, it’s a hard job because is not a paid one (at least immediately) but what drives me is to be able to share my art and to connect with people that enjoy said art. I love becoming different characters from beloved TV shows and movies, I always try different hacks and trends, but always with my touch. The thing I’m most proud of is that even though I struggle to see my self-worth, the fact that people engage constantly with my videos allows to show me that if they see something special in me, why can’t I?

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If you want to strat in the content creation industry, please know what your purpose is, because that’s what is going to drive you when you don’t see immediate results.
