Hi Rudy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a very young age, Rudy Santayana grew up in the family business working alongside his father, to whom he owes a debt of gratitude, learning the tools of the trade and homing in on his own natural ability, talent and creativity, thus, becoming a fine jewelry designer in his own right. The family business with a rich history spanning several decades in Miami, was Rudy’s launching pad.
Ten years ago, Rudy opened his own very successful jewelry design business and brick and mortar store in Coral Gables. At Rudy Santayana Jewelry, we are more than just a jewelry business, we are a family-owned and operated establishment with a deep commitment to handcrafted excellence. Our passion for crafting unique collections and personalized custom jewelry is at the heart of everything we do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with the opening of any new business, there are the challenges and fears of the unknown along the way. One of the biggest obstacles for Rudy, was the feeling of having some “very big shoes to fill”, those of his father and mentor. He wanted to make sure, and still does to this day, to create and design fine jewelry that his father would be proud of. When his father, the Patriarch of the family, became ill with Lung Cancer, he was absent all of a sudden, and Rudy had to step up very quickly with no time to digest or even get used to the idea. He had to quickly take on his father’s responsibilities and earn the respect of his peers, colleagues and industry professionals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Rudy takes great pride in his original designed collections. Each and every one is a testament to Rudy’s creative mind, high taste level and design process. Taking inspiration from art, travel, trends and nature, Rudy designs original pieces and collections that are truly unique to him. He is an artist and a designer with a great desire to create with the finest gemstones and excellence in craftsmanship bringing forth unique creations that inspire self expression and evoke emotion. He specializes in fine diamond and gemstone jewelry, set in 14kt. and 18kt. gold. He also specializes in creating beautiful one-of-a-kind engagement rings that are created with his special techniques and measurements. Rudy grew up traveling and going to museums with his father who always traveled with a sketch pad. Many of Rudy’s designs have evolved from places he’s visited, architecture, and paintings that have inspired him along the way.
