Exploring Life & Business with Eduardo Lima of In Brazil, my art profile is “I draw hearts”, and it still exists, of course! I also had “ceiling cakes”, because I made cakes to sell in my coffee shop and for marketing purposes. I started drawing messages with phrases, excerpts from songs, and my entire space was made of glass, so it was like a cake and drawing studio.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Lima

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My art 🖼️ talks about me personally, my life story, with all the good and bad, it’s as if I expressed my experiences through colors and written messages, actually drawn/lettering, I spent 7 years in SP, developing this pointillism technique using chalk, then adding fluorescent colors through liquid chalk, why? I needed to sell rolled cakes that I bought from Recife and every week they flew to SP, where I distributed them in more than 100 points… I introduced the culture of rolled cakes and not Swiss rolls. I set up a showroom to promote this product and present them as a true Pernambucano that I am. I am a born entrepreneur, I have been an entrepreneur practically all my life, always in the commercial area, and marketing does the job of introducing the product in the market where I worked in SP Brazil. The customers lost me. Coffee ☕️ because cake goes well with coffee, and in the crazy city of São Paulo, I listened to my customers and started serving it with coffee and doing tastings. Soon, customers asked me for other homemade cakes. As a Brazilian survivor and warrior, I got my hands dirty and people liked them so much that my cakes paid for my business and I stopped distributing the roll cake. And always, my space was different, with drawings on the windows, and signs on the hunt with messages and colorful images that it was impossible for someone not to stop and read, even to criticize, but MOST people LOVED THEM and came in to try my cakes. Soon, customers gave me the feedback “The Best Cake Ever”. As a marketer, I drew this provocative slogan on the videos and the result was that I won over customers who became friends to this day, who follow me on social media, and miss my cakes so much. Brazil, we know when things are good and bad, and I already knew Miami, in fact I gave up an opportunity to live here 10 years ago, and Miami has been fascinating to me since the first day I set foot here, I think I wanted to live here because of the colors, the customers and the people speak Spanish hahaha (I speak Portuguese) 😆 here I am and I follow my path using my limitations, using something simple, colorful, with elements that are known or not, but that in itself, already has a code with people, but I pass on my message, which comes from my heart ❤️‍🔥 that even when hurt, decides to spread love” (dramas 🤣) when I stop to draw, I’m like playing a game and I spend 8 hours making a cut and because I want everyone to see my feeling there, but colors, that’s love! That’s my path, that moves me. It makes me be here fighting for my dreams, for my family who I want to come, friends and I mean people I adore, who connect with my art, and I do it for myself, I love it, and when you do it with love, it’s simple, this is special. ❤️‍🔥💪🏽🥹

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road… We all have our dramas, but mine seem quite striking. I’m here to move on with my life after an 18-year relationship that ended, and I needed to change countries, continents to be able to disconnect from the past, and here life is very intense. I left Brazil and arrived working as a house cleaner with an aunt in Seattle. I stayed for 2 months because she was a difficult person. So I went to New York because I didn’t know it. At first, wow! But it’s a very big and cold city. People in general don’t even look at you. And I have connections. I soon came to Miami and got a job and I already knew it. Working a lot, I noticed pain in my right leg and spine. I went to the hospital here and nothing… I moved on and discovered a problem in my femur. In my hip, I spent almost 3 years living with pain and taking all the medicines to cope with the pain and working. until I was able to make my correction, it’s been 33 days today, I recovered the movement of my leg, my self-esteem and I decided that this was the time to follow my dreams, doing what I love to do, which is my art, this I haven’t stopped doing since I was in Seattle. and now I continue to dive into this art market 🖼️ to understand and live from it. to live from what I love to do!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a born entrepreneur by life, I have always been in the commercial area, therefore I studied advertising and marketing… I have had cosmetics companies, a LGBT tourist guide printed in Sao Paulo, I did a campaign: “Not even a Saint can protect you, use a condom!” for Pride 2011, on every avenue in Sao Paulo with 3 million people present, the biggest in the world. The campaign had images by photographer Ronaldo Gutierrez, famous in his field, images of Saints (representative of Catholic Saints), and I was one of the Saints, at the invitation of the photographer, and that’s why I created the campaign and presented the idea and he allowed me to use the images with the teaser “Not Even Saints Protect You, Use a Condom”. It generated worldwide controversy and I received a lawsuit, the police came to my house, they wanted to arrest me for telling the truth, if you don’t use a condom, you’ll contract diseases… anyway, always with a lot of art, connecting people, after that I left the gay segment, because I didn’t have support. And then, on the contrary, I wanted to generate controversy and they didn’t accept that the campaign was legitimate. From there, a whole life of entrepreneurship, several businesses until I became a pastry chef and designer, and cakes for me are also part of my art, where they savor all my feelings, my love!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Well, my life has never been easy, so I always used the difficulties to bring something new, different, surprising, like wow! and I use liquid chalk with fluorescent colors, and the combination of colors, with graphic elements of general knowledge, with poems, song lyrics, touched people who were in the rush of their day, and came across a beautiful message, and got emotional, so they came in and bought my cakes. and I did everything, answered and talked for hours hahaha it was a beautiful life laboratory, and the feedback was like 1 million dollars, for life, and that’s about it, I love filling people’s hearts, with simple and special things
