Exploring Life & Business with Missy Gueits of Missy Gueits Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Missy Gueits

Hi Missy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My Photography journey started or blossomed at the age of 26 when my daughters were 3 & 2 years old. I always loved photographing and documenting events & of course I always took photos of my daughters for different milestones. At that point I decided to buy a Costco Bundle Canon Camera and sign up for a photography basic class at the local community college. After 1 year of course after course and exploring different genres, I gravitated to Portraiture. At the time I worked for Corporate America so I began by photographing friends and families on the weekend for little to no money but knew I had to practice and build my portfolio. Through the years, I focused on Families and children but always as a side hustle. In 2018, I opened my studio in the Bird Road Art District area and began to really focus on my photography. In 2021 I was laid off my 20 year Corporate America job and this propelled me to give this passion of mine 100%. I took a lighting & Maternity photography course with an establish Maternity Photographer in the area and the workshop changed my entire Career. I learned lighting techniques and a portrait style I fell in love with. Ever since I shifted my business to a Luxury Maternity & Family Portrait Studio. I focus on mainly on Maternity & Newborn but stay in the journey with my clients through the years. This shift my business in becoming a 6 figure a year business and a name for myself in the Portrait Industry. I photograph over 200 Maternity sessions a year and over 150 Newborns. The ability to empower women and make them feel beautiful is my life’s purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have lived over 22 years of trial and errors. Photography is not a smooth road and it entails a lot of dedication and a lot of sacrifice. Biggest struggle is social media upkeep. It is truly a Full time job but something that is so necessary in today’s age.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentoring is key to success! No matter how driven and fearless you may be, you need a mentor. I was first Mentored by Vanessa from V and Co. Till this day, Venessa helps me whenever I reach out. Her work ethics align with mine so I have always felt comfortable in learning and taking advice from her. After her I have met remarkable photographers and mentors that have shaped me in so many ways. Sometimes the investment is hard to take but I am here to tell you that its worth every penny.
