Daily Inspiration: Meet Samantha De Las Traviesas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha De Las Traviesas

Hi Samantha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I have always felt a creative drive within me, one that has only intensified over the years. Expressing myself through art, music, and dance has brought me immense joy. For the first 18 years of my life, I danced passionately, leaving a part of myself on the stage once the music stopped. There was no greater feeling than standing in a dimly-lit studio, the air filled with aromas of hairspray and body splash. It was an experience that words cannot fully capture, yet somehow the music. At age 19, I made the difficult decision to step away from dance to focus on my studies and pursue a more conventional career path. Initially, I was uncertain about what to study, having defaulted to a major in Biology. However, early in my first semester, my mom suggested Architecture and Interior Design. Though I hadn’t previously given it much thought, I realized my passion for drawing and creating could be well-suited to this field. I switched my major and quickly fell in love with the idea of designing and transforming spaces to meet the needs of their users.

I dedicated countless hours to perfecting my work, often working late into the night, lucky to get even a few hours of sleep. My commitment to this path led me to intern at a prestigious, world-renowned architecture firm. However, after some time, I realized that architecture might not be the right fit for me. Spending long hours drafting floor plans behind a screen did not align with my outgoing personality and desire to interact with people. My interest in people and relationship-building led me to property management, which I discovered through my bosses, who were avid property investors. I quickly developed a passion for the field and decided to pause my studies to focus entirely on work.

After almost four years in property management, I pursued my real estate license. Today, alongside my creative pursuits, I specialize in helping people navigate the journey of finding their dream homes. Although my career path has taken unexpected turns, I believe everything happens for a reason, and I am truly happy with where I am today. I remain committed to personal and professional growth, always striving to better myself each day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, I wish it had been different. In hindsight, I’m glad it wasn’t, as the experience has played a significant role in shaping my character and making me the person I am today. However, I do regret not focusing more on my studies and completing my degree. I often reflect on the time and money I wasted, and it’s a constant source of regret. I genuinely miss learning about sustainable practices, materials, and architectural innovations. While I still draw, it’s nowhere near the level of engagement I had when I was in the program.

Looking back, I realize that I struggled with my environment. I wasn’t surrounded by the best influences, which diverted my attention from my primary goals. I regret being stubborn and not heeding my parents’ advice. It was difficult for me to accept that they were right, and had I listened, my path might have been very different. While I am happy with where I am today, I would be dishonest if I said I had no regrets.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am relatively new to the real estate industry, having obtained my license at the end of last year. As an agent for just under a year, I have enjoyed meeting new people and leveraging my keen eye for design to support and advise clients. Specializing in residential real estate, I am also interested in eventually entering the luxury market, despite its inherent challenges and competition. My background in design allows me to create visual renderings of spaces, helping clients better envision the potential of a property. Being born and raised in Miami, I offer authentic, in-depth knowledge of the local market, which helps me provide valuable insights to my clients. By combining my unique design background, local knowledge, and a commitment to excellent service, I am able to carve out a distinct presence in the competitive real estate market.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I would describe myself as somewhat of a risk-taker, at times perhaps pushing the boundaries. Whether it’s embarking on a new creative endeavor, pursuing an unconventional path, or making bold career decisions, I believe that true growth comes from taking calculated risks. While it is not always easy—there is often uncertainty and the potential for failure—I have found that the greatest rewards often arise from stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. Each risk I’ve taken has imparted valuable lessons, and over time, I have grown more at ease with navigating the unknown. For me, being a risk-taker means embracing challenges, trusting in one’s abilities, and remaining open to whatever the journey may bring.
