Check Out Maureen Mclaine’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Mclaine

Hi Maureen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a strong sense of who I wanted to be even at a young age. I studied architecture with a minor in art history at Texas A&M University where I simultaneously competed for four years on the NCAA swim team. I began my design career as an architect intern for a small architecture firm doing historical renovations and multifamily design and construction. Joining Stantec back in 2014, I made a shift into interior design rather quickly and earned my professional interior design license. I relocated to Miami in 2017, and during that time, I have acquired a robust portfolio featuring unique projects all over South Florida. Through hard work and a passion for creating meaningful spaces, I progressed into the role of Interior Design Studio lead for the Miami office. I currently work with an amazing team designing local entertainment, multifamily, healthcare, and hospitality projects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would not say my road has been smooth. I have had my fair share of obstacles, both externally and internally. There were mental and physical health battles as well as outside forces that left me questioning my path. In addition, when you are in the design and construction industry, there are always unforeseen issues that arise, but that just comes with the territory. Construction is the perfect symbolism for life… You know something great is being built – but you must have patience, have a plan, be adaptable, and do your best. That is when the best outcomes arise.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed interior designer with a robust portfolio of projects including government, entertainment, education, multifamily, and hospitality. Working in the design and construction industry for over a decade, I have projects all over the country, but most reside in South Florida. I specialize in wellness design and earned the WELL AP credit – which focuses on the well-being of the people occupying a building. One of my favorite things to do is go back to the buildings I have worked on as a patron or bystander and watch others interact with them. Interior design is personal, and we should be able to feel the positive emotions that emit from a well-designed space. I am also the one you call when you are looking for a designer who can cover every phase of a project – from concept through completion. I will get a project across the finish line.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I am the middle child of seven girls, so personality wise, I was creative, curious, competitive and a little awkward! Ha ha. I had a passion for creative endeavors like music, painting, and drawing, and my competitive side was satiated through sports. I trained hard and used swimming as a tool to help me pay for college. In the summers, I was usually either going to swim practice or playing the computer game “Sims” which ignited my spark for interior design. I poured hours into designing the houses and space planning for the avatar’s virtual lives. As I was growing up, I would also be constantly drawing houses, designing spaces in other virtual worlds, and rearranging the furniture and decorations in my bedroom.
