Today we’d like to introduce you to Nahomie Jean Louis
Hi Nahomie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Nahomie. I was born in Miami of Haitian parents. Growing up, I was always fascinated by traveling because my parents traveled a lot, which naturally led me to exploring the world at a young age. I now live between Miami and Mallorca.
The early stages of my career took me to different paths, from nursing to a law degree. However, my first job as a nurse is where I gained invaluable experience and insights. This period was crucial as it allowed me to hone my professional skills and build a network of like-minded individuals throughout the years.
As I progressed, I encountered various challenges, but each obstacle taught me something new and helped shape my path. Deep down though, law has always been my passion. I decided to go back to school to complete my bachelor in political science then I went on to study international human rights law in Madrid, Spain. I took advantage of opportunities such as being able to study, live abroad, and further my education to grow both personally and professionally.
Today, with the choices I have made, I have the privilege of working fully remote and the ability to live in two different countries. It’s been a rewarding journey filled with learning and growth, and I’m excited to continue evolving and contributing to my community both in Miami and in Mallorca where I am working on my latest project, 1923 Botanik.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Balancing work, life, multiple projects proved to be challenging. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, but I learned to prioritize and manage my time effectively. Support from mentors, friends, and family played a crucial role in helping me stay focused and motivated. Practicing gratitude and believing that everything will work in my favor is something that I always keep in mind as well.
Despite these struggles, each setback provided a valuable lesson and helped build my resilience. These experiences have made me more appreciative of the progress and success I have achieved. Looking back, I realize that the challenges were essential in shaping the person I am today and preparing me for future opportunities and obstacles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
1923 Botanik is deeply personal to me, rooted in memories from my childhood in Haiti. I remember watching my grandmother use herbs as medicine, and that experience has stayed with me, shaping how I see the world and the healing power of nature. When I started to think about creating 1923 Botanik, I knew I didn’t want to just open a bar. I wanted to create a space where I could connect my knowledge of herbal medicine with the art of cocktails. It’s my way of tying in the concept of slow living from Bloom Mallorca into my project—being intentional, passionate, and connected to what truly matters. This project is more than just a business; it’s an extension of myself and my greatest piece of art.
At its core, 1923 Botanik is dedicated to curating exceptional experiences through our meticulously crafted cocktails and live jazz music. We specialize in herbal infusion to create our cocktails, ensuring each offering reflects our dedication to excellence and our love for the natural world.
What sets 1923 Botanik apart is our unwavering commitment to sustainability and authenticity. We source our ingredients and materials from trusted, eco-friendly suppliers, ensuring that every product is not only of the highest quality but also responsibly produced. Our collaboration to create a private wine label with a local winemaker to supporting small farmers to outsource production of the herbs.
One of the aspects we are most proud of is our ability to blend tradition with innovation. We honor the timeless methods of crafting our products while incorporating modern techniques and ideas to enhance their quality and appeal. This balance ensures that our brand remains fresh and relevant while staying true to its roots.
Brand-wise, I’m particularly proud of our reputation for quality, as we are just in the beginning stages, it great to see that we’ve already built a community of individuals who share our values and appreciate the care and effort we put into every product. This connection with our customers is incredibly rewarding and motivates us to continue striving for excellence.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Now that I am living between Miami and Mallorca. I do miss the fast pace mentality from a city like Miami, especially when you’re running a business. Building a community and networking is one of Miami’s strengths. You meet people from all over the world. However, I left Miami for the same reasons, it can be difficult to find a balance between work and life. It can be difficult to say no or to slow down because the lifestyle revolves around the nightlife.
This is why I am now spending and expending myself in the Mediterranean. Many of my clients are coming from places like Miami and they just need to slow down. I’m grateful to have both.
