Exploring Life & Business with Bettina Capucho of Bettina Capucho

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bettina Capucho

Hi Bettina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Clinical Psychologist, writer, speaker, and university lecturer. I hold 4 master’s degrees in Psychology: Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Higher Education Teaching, Neuropsychology and Psycho-Oncology. Additionally, I have 2 Business Master’s degrees: an MBA and a Team Management Master Degree, along with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. My expertise spans specialized areas such as grief therapy, behavioral intervention, conflict mediation, among others. As an author, I have published 4 books focusing on supporting the oncological population, personal growth and children emotional development. And 3 Workbooks: a journal for adults, a journal for children and an art therapy centered one. I also have been recognized with three global awards.

My journey into the world of psychology began with a simple yet profound fascination for studying the human mind and behavior. As I progressed in my studies, I faced the challenge of choosing a specialty, which initially overwhelmed me due to the wide array of options available. However, various experiences in professional internships and job opportunities began to clarify my path, revealing my passion for interacting and playing with children, as well as for education.

This passion motivated me to delve deeper into studying specific tools and strategies for intervention with children and adolescents. Concurrently, my growing interest in sharing the acquired knowledge led me to venture into the realm of teaching.

Throughout my career, I’ve discovered that accumulating knowledge and experiences not only enriches one professionally but also broadens the responsibility to transmit those learnings. This is how I found my dual passion: working directly in transforming young lives and shaping the minds of future professionals through college teaching. Each step of my career has been a cornerstone in building a path dedicated to education and emotional well-being, driving both my personal and professional growth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been a smooth road, but every challenge has been a stepping stone towards fulfilling my professional dreams. I come from a family background where the idea of attending university was quite foreign. This meant I had to navigate the world of academia largely on my own, starting with minimal resources. That’s how I became the first one in my generation to have college education. My journey began with finding scholarships that allowed me to pursue my passion for psychology, all while holding a full-time job that initially did not align with my career aspirations.

For about eight years, my daily routine was grueling—I worked eight hours a day, attended university classes for another four (plus hours of studying and doing research) and managed only four hours of sleep before doing it all over again. This period was challenging, but it laid a solid foundation for my future. By the end of this phase, I had not only completed my undergraduate degree but also two diplomas and two of my master’s degrees. Subsequently, my postgraduate studies have been somewhat more flexible, allowing me a better balance between my studies, personal responsibilities and resting time.

My greatest challenges have revolved around making significant time sacrifices and securing funding for my education. These experiences taught me resilience and the importance of persistence and hard work.

Today, I am deeply engaged in work that I love, that is helping families connect and enjoy each phase of their lives together. In my practice, I use creative and playful methods that make therapy sessions both effective and enjoyable. This journey, though tough, has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to make a meaningful impact in the lives of many.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in empowering mothers, providing them with the essential tools they need to master parenting and truly enjoy motherhood. This is the cornerstone of my service, particularly through my flagship program, “ABC de la Maternidad” / “ABC of Maternity.”

This program is designed to adapt to the unique dynamics and preferences of each family. It offers mothers the knowledge and personalized tools they need to foster a deep, emotional connection with their children—even with limited time available. This program is tailored for professionally successful mothers who seek empowerment in their parenting decisions and strive for a balanced life, nurturing strong, enduring relationships with their children through all stages of growth.
The program features:
* Strategies to ensure children listen and follow instructions from the first request.
* Techniques to create quality moments through short activities and games that fit into daily routines, enhancing family connections.
* Guidance on balancing various life roles, including motherhood, self-care, and professional success.
* Confidence-building advice to trust one’s parental instincts and decisions.
* Scientifically-backed information to support a child’s development at every stage.

My program encapsulates all the knowledge I have gathered over years of study and practice. The goal is to cultivate inner peace and wisdom in mothers, enabling them to manage their children’s behavior effectively while also taking care of themselves and their professional lives. This program includes pre-recorded classes, live sessions, access to a community of like-minded mothers, personalized consulting, and much more.

What sets this program apart is its comprehensive approach and deep understanding of the challenges modern mothers face. I am most proud of how my program helps mothers become empowered and confident in their parenting choices, preparing them for the challenges of the various developmental stages of their children’s lives. It’s about more than just education; it’s about building a supportive community that champions the growth and well-being of both mother and child.

I also have other programs focused on self care, life balance, business mindset and others.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities that I consider most crucial to my success are perseverance, discipline, resilience, and creativity. Each of these traits plays a vital role in navigating the challenges and demands of my profession as a psychologist, educator, and advocate for mental health.
Perseverance has been essential in my journey, especially when faced with the inherent challenges of working in mental health and education. It has allowed me to continue pushing forward, even when progress seems slow or obstacles seem insurmountable.
Discipline is equally important, providing the structure and consistency needed to meet the demands of both clinical practice and academic commitments. It helps me manage my responsibilities effectively and ensures that I am always prepared to offer the best possible support to those who rely on my expertise.
Resilience has been key in coping with the emotional demands of my work, especially when dealing with grief counseling. It enables me to recover from setbacks and maintain my commitment to helping others.
Lastly, creativity is vital in developing effective therapeutic approaches and engaging educational content. It allows me to tailor my methods to meet the unique needs of individuals and groups, making my interventions more impactful and accessible.
Together, these characteristics have not only defined my professional approach but have also been fundamental in shaping the successes I have achieved in my career.
