Rising Stars: Meet Joan Pizarro of Homestead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joan Pizarro

Hi Joan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a proud mother of Two girls and my journey with social media began as my second was born. Navigating being a mother of two was difficult and I struggled with anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I would go online searching for other moms who may share the same experience but felt the online presence lacked women really being real and raw when describing motherhood, not to mention none looked like me. I then decided I would open an account to have an outlet to express myself and hopefully build a community where all moms can feel safe and laugh together , 7 years later I am still here!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Opening up to a public audience can be overwhelming as some people feel the right to say some hurtful and mean things not knowing your heart. I’ve vowed to continue to be myself and it has brought to me so much growth as many women can relate to my “unhinged” thoughts!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full time working mom and it is a task to say the least to balance it all ! I have worked in a Cancer Center for over 10 years and I truly get fulfillment in knowing I have have made people smile in days they needed it most. I transitioned to remote a couple of years back and although I miss that human interaction I am greatful to be home and see my children more often.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in such a thing. We all have our own journey and the timing of it all depends on the work you put in and being true to yourself.
