Exploring Life & Business with Sofia Miranda of M3 Pediatric Home Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Miranda

Hi Sofia , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with 22 years of experience. I have spent my entire career working at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital; first as a registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and after completing my Master’s degree in Nursing, I transitioned into a nurse practitioner working for several departments such as pediatric surgery, Emergency room and most recently in the Department of Hematology/Oncology. I founded M3 Pediatric Home Care because day after day, I encountered lapse in care for patients that needed medical attention; Doctor’s offices and emergency rooms were saturated with patients and insurance companies denying care to kids that needed it the most. I also witnessed that children heal better in a nonthreatening environment and are comfortable in their familiar place, their homes. I launched as a one woman operation and 3 months later the demand was so high that I began building my team of amazing providers that truly have a talent for caring for children. The M3 team is now made up of 10 individuals that provide different healthcare services at your home. M3 services include house calls for sick visits, medication administration such as shots and chemotherapy, IV infusions, phlebotomy services, wound closures and post operative nursing care. M3 is coming up on year 3 and I could not be happier with the support we have provided to the Miami-dade community in the last 2 years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, the demand has been a challenge sometimes. Trying to get to everyone in a timely manner. Personally, balancing work life and mom life has also been one of my challenges however, I have an amazing team that supports me when I want to take the day off. Our service is open 365 days a year 12-16 hours a day. We answer every text and phone call same day which can also be a challenge.

We’ve been impressed with M3 Pediatric Home Care , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
M3 Pediatric Home Care specializes in quality healthcare for children in the comfort of their home. We treat children from newborns to age 21 years old. We provide personalized care and tailor care plans to children’s needs depending on their developmental age. Each clinician on our team has 10 plus years in pediatric experience and truly have a gift for taking care of children. Our hours are kid and school friendly. We provide phlebotomy services (lab draw service) before school hours. We can perform rapid tests for select illnesses at your home. One of our goals is to decrease unnecessary school absences. We are available by phone or text 16 hours per day. We answer every call or text same day. Additionally, M3 provides personalized medical travel kits upon request. The medical travel kit is a kit that has medication for the most common pediatric ailments with a personalized dosage sheet for that instance when you are traveling and your child gets sick. This has been a parent favorite over the last year. Our social media page provides tips for parents on what’s going on in the community health-wise and products that are worth purchasing to help with kids healthcare needs. We also provide substitute nursing services to schools upon request.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that you can’t take your health for granted-whether it’s the littlest patient, new parents, an active teenager or an abuela. Everyone deserves good quality healthcare and to feel at their best. It makes me happy to play a small role in helping families heal and get back to doing what they love. And, of course, smiling or a good laugh is the best medicine of all. As Patch Adams would say, “You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.”
