Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Victoria Carrasquilla
Hi Maria Victoria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My brand encompasses the desire to foster a better world with less pollution, promoting the principles of reuse, reduce and recycle. At the same time inspire and educate our clients that it is possible to look spectacular while supporting environmental sustainability. After earning my fine arts degree specifically in fashion design, I began creating certain designs where I presented my brand’s mission by including eco-friendly fabrics to make a significant contribution to this cause. With each collection I create a cultural journey that takes you to different parts of the world. Until now I have covered a significant group of the population, which is why the brand is currently in an evolution where it goes directly to the essence and DNA of what I want to share with each one of you and the history of each piece.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entering the competitive swimsuit industry in Miami has presented considerable challenges, a fact those in the field understand well. However, these challenges can be managed with determination and adaptability, particularly by offering distinctive styles with unique prints and cuts that suit all body types. To further enhance the visibility and growth of our brand, we have actively participated in major emerging events within the resort sector, expanding our reach and increasing brand recognition.
Another important challenge arose when I decided to manufacture in Colombia. The decision, made during the pandemic, was complicated by extensive travel restrictions, which required communication to only be done via video calls and emails. Despite these difficulties, this strategic choice allowed Victoria León to present a unique fusion of culture, color and style. As we continue to address and overcome these obstacles, each challenge is met with steadfast perseverance and a deep passion for our work, setting the stage for future developments and innovations.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Victoria Leon exemplifies the intersection of family heritage and cultural exploration. Founded by Venezuelan designer María Victoria and her mother Yamileth León, the brand combines elegance and confidence in each meticulously crafted piece. María Victoria draws inspiration from her travels and the rich cultural landscapes she encounters, infusing each collection with the essence of Venezuelan heritage.
The brand’s influence extends beyond Latin America, reflecting María Victoria’s global experiences and artistic inspirations. Each collection captures the spirit of diverse destinations, integrating elements from each place into their designs.
Victoria Leon Swimwear is distinguished by its commitment to quality and sustainability. Manufactured in Colombia, and based in South Florida, the swimwear combines luxury with practical features such as SPF 50 protection and tummy control, ensuring both style and comfort. Victoria Leon invites customers to experience a journey of elegance, adventure and empowerment with each piece, celebrating culture, craftsmanship and the promise of new horizons with the echoes of travel movement.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Initially I have had collaborations with influencers in fashion and beauty categories where we developed a very effective marketing strategy, and it allowed us to reach a specific audience and create a more authentic connection with consumers.
I currently have a few ideas including hosting pop-up shop events and collaborating with local artists and designers, where they can showcase their work alongside my swimwear line. This could also include live art performances or workshops.
Another idea could be AI fusion where digital artists create unique NFTs (non-fungible tokens) that remix swimsuit design ideas. And customers could purchase a physical swimsuit along with its corresponding digital NFT art.
Or one of my favorite ideas could be collaborating with artists to create a special line of swimsuits where a portion of the profits go to a charitable cause, such as ocean cleanup initiatives or reducing single-use plastic products.
