Exploring Life & Business with Dre Baldwin of Work On Your Game Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dre Baldwin

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Philadelphia, a city where playing basketball was almost a rite of passage for young men. Yet, when I first stepped onto the court at 14, I was far from a natural. Despite not making my high school varsity team until my senior year—and averaging just two points per game—I was determined to succeed. After high school, I knew I wanted to attend college, even though no one was recruiting me for basketball. I walked on to the team at Penn State Abington, a Division III school, and later transferred to Penn State Altoona. After graduating in 2004, with no professional prospects in sight, I worked various jobs, including as an assistant manager at Foot Locker and a membership salesperson at Bally Total Fitness.

Despite these humble beginnings, my focus remained on playing professional basketball. In 2005, I saved up to attend an exposure camp in Orlando, Florida—a job fair for aspiring pro athletes. After a grueling 19-hour drive from Philly, I played my heart out, earning a positive scouting report and crucial game footage. This exposure camp was a turning point. With the VHS tape of my performance, I cold-called 60 basketball agents, and after sending my footage to 20 of them, one agreed to represent me. Within six weeks, I landed my first professional contract in Lithuania.

Simultaneously, I uploaded my game footage to a little-known platform called YouTube, simply to have a backup. I had no idea this would be the start of something big. Over time, young basketball players began reaching out to me, asking for tips and tutorials. Realizing there was a massive, underserved audience eager to learn, I began recording and posting instructional videos. At that time, no other athlete was sharing free training content online, making me a pioneer in the space.

By 2009, my basketball career had hit a standstill, and I found myself in the uncertain space that many athletes experience between gigs. It was then that I fully embraced entrepreneurship. Years earlier, a network marketing meeting during my college days had introduced me to the concept of personal development. Books like *Think and Grow Rich* by Napoleon Hill and *Rich Dad Poor Dad* by Robert Kiyosaki profoundly influenced me, opening my eyes to the idea that I could shape my own destiny through intentional thought and action.

Leveraging the sales and marketing skills I had developed over the years, I began to see myself as more than just an athlete. My YouTube channel gained momentum, and I started to expand my brand, sharing not just basketball tips, but life lessons, mindset strategies, and business insights. This marked the beginning of what would eventually become my company, Work On Your Game Inc., where I help high performers in various fields achieve success through mindset, strategy, systems, and accountability.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like I mentioned, working a couple of regular jobs while trying to get my career started was the first challenging piece in my adulthood. Then, keeping myself employed as a professional athlete, even once I was in the game, was another significant challenge.

After that, when I realized I should look into other areas aside from sports, I had to figure out how to do it and give myself a business education.

Finally, as a business owner, you’re always learning, growing, and adapting. The business world changes quickly, and you have to change along with it.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always driven by a deep sense of ambition and competitiveness. I had an intense desire to be the best at whatever I did, whether it was in sports, school, or any other pursuit. This drive was coupled with a strong work ethic; I was never one to shy away from putting in the time and effort needed to excel.

My interests were largely centered around sports, with basketball being my primary focus. I was drawn to the game not just for the physical challenge, but for the mental aspects—strategizing, outthinking opponents, and pushing myself to new limits. Off the court, I was curious and observant, always looking for ways to improve and understand the world around me.

Personality-wise, I was confident, but that confidence was rooted in preparation. I believed in earning everything I wanted, and I wasn’t afraid to go after it. I also had a strong sense of independence, preferring to carve out my own path rather than follow the crowd. This combination of ambition, work ethic, and independence shaped who I am today and laid the foundation for my success both in sports and in business.
