Today we’d like to introduce you to Catalina Claro
Hi Catalina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Bogota, Colombia 1994. Since I was very little I enjoyed playing piano, singing and listening to music, but it wasn’t until I turned 15 years old that I decided to take it seriously as a career. I started uploading covers on YouTube as a way to show my mom what I was learning, as she didn’t live with me, and my videos started to unexpectedly go viral, that’s how my social media presence began to consolidate. In 2011 I released my first album, Prometo, and later in 2013 I participated on The Voice (Colombian version) being on Ricardo Montaner’s team. I learned a lot from that experience and it gave more exposure on other platforms.
Up to that moment all I wanted to do was make music and share it with the world, but in 2014 my father died, he was the one guiding my life, career, everything (my hero)… and so, I decided to step out and try something more “serious” as I thought it was impossible to continue without his support. In my head at that time I thought that was the end of my music career.
During the next 4 years we had a very hard time (family issues) and in the midst of that chaos I turned to exercise and controlling my food as my refuge. I’ve had a long history of disordered eating and low self esteem, which was never resolved, and at that moment it was all I knew. I got certified as a personal trainer and worked in the fitness industry for around a year, I loved it! but my mindset at that moment was not the best.
Fast forward to 2020, during the pandemic I got certified as a Yoga Instructor, which helped me understand a lot more things about me and my way of approaching life. I moved to Miami, as my ex husband was living here, and that’s how my Miami adventure began haha. The first few years were a little hard, Im sure we all go through that stage, as we find stability and balance. I fell in love with Miami, like I was always ment to be here, but I felt very very lonely, hit rock bottom (depression) and got to a point in which I decided I needed to change my life for good.
After a huge transformation, physical, mental and spiritual, I started to feel a lot more comfortable and at peace, and I decided to do something I had wanted to do for MANY YEARS! Get certified as a Health Coach with IIN, because I wanted to help people achieve a healthy lifestyle without restriction and suffering, I wanted them to see they can love their body and live a very joyful life 🙂 At the same time I decided it was time to return to my biggest passion, MUSIC! So I started working with my friend Pablo Matices, awesome Colombian producer, and we started making and releasing music again! We created 4am, my latest EP, in which most songs tell the story of all the emotions and situations I navigated from 2020 to 2023 with depression, divorce, heart break and loneliness, but also finding love again.
Today, August 2024, I’m the happiest I have ever been! I started my coaching business “Con amor, Cata” where I get to teach women all the tools they need to transform their life and body from a place of love and self compassion. I also work with Diabetic and Pre-Diabetic patients helping them achieve a healthier lifestyle to increase their quality of life, and at the same time I’m working on new songs for my album, which we will be releasing next year! I just love my life and I hope everybody knows there’s a life full of love and joy waiting for them! They just have to make that decision and START. Everything eventually falls into place 😌✨
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely been a rocky road, but it has had so many blessings all the time. I’d say the biggest struggles happened around my dad’s passing, disordered eating, leaving Colombia and divorce. But in the end it was ALL FOR A BIGGER REASON! God is good.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Even though I have many hats (as a Health Coach but also Singer-Songwriter) my biggest passion has always been music.
My mission is to bring peace to whoever listens to my songs and make them feel they’re not alone. I love writing songs based on my own experiences, as I believe we get to help a lot of people through our life lessons. I try to combine my passion for Music with my passion for helping people, and so Cata Claro and Con amor, Cata, serve the same purpose from different angles.
What makes you happy?
Almost everything, lol. I’d say nature because it makes me feel closer to God and it reminds me of the beauty of existence. And making people smile, makes me smile. There’s nothing life that feeling in your chest when you know you’ve done something good for someone else. It might sound weird, but the feeling I get when I get to help someone and the feeling I get when I sing are very similar, I feel physical joy in my heart.
