Exploring Life & Business with Jaimie Derosa of DeRosa Clinic Palm Beach and DeRosa Facial Plastic Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaimie Derosa

Hi Jaimie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My earliest memories include knowing that I wanted to be a surgeon when I grew up. With that in mind, I attended college a the University of Virginia in Charlottesville VA and graduated with a Bachelor in Science with distinction. I then obtained a Masters in Science at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute/SUNY @ Buffalo, followed by a Medical Degree at SUNY @ Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, graduating magna cum laude. Interested in facial reconstructive surgery and helping people feel great about themselves, I pursued Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency training at Boston University and was chosen to be the Administrative Chief Resident during my final year of a 5 year training program. I then pursued specialty fellowship training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and am a double-board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. I have been in practice for almost 2 decades and was honored several years ago to be elected to the Board of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

I devote my practice to facial plastic surgery, with a special interest in rhinoplasty and aging face surgery. In 2008, I was recruited to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear and am an Assistant Professor in Otology and Laryngology at the Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. In 2013, seeking a more personalized and boutique approach to caring for my patients, I went into private practice and opened the DeRosa Facial Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Boston’s Back Bay on Newbury Street. In 2019, to better serve my Florida patients, I opened a second location in Palm Beach, the DeRosa Clinic Palm Beach. I spend time each month throughout the year in both the Boston and Palm Beach DeRosa Clinic locations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think that anyone who has opened his or her own business knows that the road can be bumpy. Combine owning a small business with also being a full-time surgeon, and the workload is immense. I think that one of the hardest parts about being a small business owner is that you can’t really understand or know from the start what obstacles or roadblocks may come up along the way to building your business, so having a flexible mindset is key. For me, what I have found very helpful is to be able to switch my ‘business’ and ‘doctor’ hats back and forth as needed and also to be open to changing course when needed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have two businesses, one located in Boston MA and the other in Palm Beach FL. Both businesses are focused on facial plastic surgery and medical-grade skin care, including laser resurfacing, radiofrequency skin tightening, and a full menu of aesthetic facial services. I and my team are committed to treating each person who walks in the door with the highest degree of specialized care and interest in their well-being. We are known for helping people be the best version of themselves and specialize in facial plastic surgeries that achieve natural, beautiful results.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents both deserve credit- my mom being one of my strongest supporters throughout my life, and my dad being both supportive and a role model as an eye surgeon (ophthalmologist) who owned his own private medical practice. My husband has also been a great support and mentor, as he is also a physician and has a MBA and is extremely skilled at the ‘big picture’ whereas my gift is for the fine details–together we make a great team. There are numerous friends, teachers, and fellow physicians who have played a role- big or small- in my success as a female business owner.
