Inspiring Conversations with Karlie Ullman of Eleven18

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karlie Ullman

Hi Karlie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Around 2 years ago, I started taking my Instagram presence more seriously. I developed my own distinct aesthetic and began posting consistently, which my followers really responded to positively. Shortly after that, I was hired at an agency based in New York. Working there gave me the confidence to pursue this passion on my own, and that’s when I founded Eleven18 in Miami.

My first client was an acai bowl shop, which quickly led to more clients. I found a niche in interior design and luxury branding. Fast forward to today, and I now have numerous clients in both New York and Miami. I also regularly take on new branding projects, which are some of my favorite work.

It hasn’t been an easy journey, but as a creative person, I’ve always found a way to make it work. I love waking up each day, knowing I’ll be sitting at my desk or meeting with clients, challenging myself and doing something that I’m passionate about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path hasn’t always been easy, but interestingly, my story is a bit different from the typical entrepreneurial journey. My first year in business was surprisingly smooth, which is quite atypical. However, after that initial year, things started to feel complicated.

A couple of months ago, my business faced adversity, which forced me to essentially start from scratch. But that challenge quickly turned into a huge blessing, and now I feel nothing but momentum.

Two of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way are: 1) mixing friends and business doesn’t work well, and 2) it’s crucial not to put all of your eggs in one basket.

While the road has had its ups and downs, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Eleven18?
You should know that Eleven18 focuses on all things digital, from branding to website design, we love helping our clients show off their digital world to everyone.

We specialize in Social media management and branding.

What sets us apart from others is our unique approach to aesthetics. We really take the time to make a killer Instagram feed.

I am most proud of how Eleven18 doesn’t stick to a niche. We work with all different businesses and individuals.

I want the readers to know that we are a one stop shop for all things digital and we really pride ourselves in working with clients who want their vision to come to life but don’t know how.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I wouldn’t say I am perfect in this area, moving to a new state hasn’t always been easy to network but my suggestion would be to put yourself out there online. Message people, interact with content, etc. Also be vulnerable, when I was having a really hard time a couple of months ago, I confided in another agency owner and that really put things into perspective for me. Lastly, I would say to make sure you are doing things outside of work that fuel you. I have met a lot of creatives and individuals when I was surprisingly not working. Example, yoga, reading groups, etc.
