Rising Stars: Meet Albairis aka Alba Gomez of International-NYC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Albairis aka Alba Gomez

Hi Albairis aka Alba, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I think of myself as an old soul and since young, I knew I wanted to help others. I decided that my calling was to become a social worker. As a first generation Latinx woman, I had to face a lot of adversity and work really hard to earn my place in this world. Through it I found my voice, strength and vulnerability. After a few years of being a social workers and doing community work and eventually opening up my own private practice, I also decided to become a business coach helping other first generation entrepreneurs make their visions of entrepreneurship a reality.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth ride at all! I think the biggest struggle for me was imposter syndrome! Growing up, I had very little exposure to success within my family and my strengths were not highlighted often, so I had to learn to look for the right mentorship and work on my sense of self. Also, starting your own business requires a lot of falling down and getting up. Giving up is not an option.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known as a psychotherapist, Licensed Social Worker, in private practice focusing on personal development and a First Generation Entrepreneur Coach helping bridge personal and professional development for clients. I help people to look deep within and gain insight into their personhood. I challenge and help clients achieve more. I support clients to embrace life purpose and that taking small steps in the right direction, is better than taking no step at all. I also ensure that entrepreneurs embrace leadership and authenticity and feel confident in how they show up in the world.

I am most proud of establishing my businesses and being able to give back to my community in a profound, intimate way.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I bring myself to the work and use my own experiences to support my relationships with clients. they feel heard and seen and it feels real.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am actually a musician! I play the trumpet and I sing as well. I played professionally starting at the age of 13 years old. It is a huge part of my identity.
