My journey into fitness and nutrition coaching began about two and a half decades ago, driven by a passion for empowering individuals to become the best versions of themselves. I started as a fitness enthusiast, gradually transitioning into a group fitness and personal trainer and a comprehensively trained Pilates and sports performance professional.
After 12 years, I landed in collegiate strength and conditioning as a coach and director of programs at a Division 1 Big Ten School (Purdue University), then subsequently a professional bodybuilder, and now also an online high performance and nutrition coach. My career has been a blend of continuous learning, rigorous training, and a deep commitment to my clients’ success.
From working with billionaires, entrepreneurs, and professional athletes to everyday women striving to unleash their inner superheroes, my approach has always been about more than just physical transformation. I focus on mindset, customized nutrition, and training strategies and provide unwavering accountability. This holistic approach has enabled me to build Specos Enterprises, a platform dedicated to bespoke fitness and nutrition coaching.
Over the years, I’ve expanded my services to include e-books, online courses, group mentorship, and elite 1:1 coaching. Each program is meticulously designed to cater to individual needs, ensuring that my clients not only achieve their fitness goals but also experience a profound mental and emotional transformation.
My commitment to excellence and authentic care for my clients have been the cornerstones of my success. Now, as I continue to grow my online coaching business, my goal is to win an IFBB professional competition and, if the Lord allows it, one day step on stage at the Olympia, all while creating impactful content and fostering a community of strong, empowered individuals. I dream big these days- haha!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey to where I am today has been anything but smooth. Like any meaningful endeavor, it has been marked by numerous obstacles and challenges. Early on, I faced the typical struggles of breaking into a competitive industry—building a client base, establishing a unique brand, and differentiating myself from countless other coaches.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing my personal and professional life. As a professional bodybuilder, I know that the demands of training and competition are intense and require immense discipline and time management. Balancing these demands with my commitment to my clients has taught me the importance of prioritizing and maintaining a clear focus on my goals.
Another significant challenge has been dealing with the misconceptions and stereotypes associated with fitness, bodybuilding, and femininity. Overcoming the notion that fitness is solely judged on physical appearance and classifying strength and physique goals as “masculine” negates the profound impact it can have on a woman’s mental health and overall well-being. There has been a continuous effort to eradicate ignorance around this.
Additionally, building an online coaching business has not been without its hurdles. Navigating the ever-evolving digital landscape, staying ahead of trends, and continually adapting my strategies to meet the needs of a diverse clientele have required resilience and adaptability. There were moments of self-doubt and financial uncertainty, but each obstacle has been an opportunity for growth and learning.
Throughout these challenges, my unwavering commitment to my clients and my passion for what I do have been my guiding lights. Every setback has reinforced my belief in the importance of a positive mindset and the power of perseverance.
These experiences have shaped me into the coach I am today, capable of not only guiding my clients through their fitness journeys but also inspiring them to overcome their obstacles with strength and grace.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
With mastery of 25 years in the game, I’ve had the pleasure of coaching and mentoring some of my peers and up and coming younger fitness professionals! Interestingly, I’ve seen a lot of parallels in the journey as that they’ve gone through personally AND professionally!
Embarking on either a personal fitness journey OR a journey as a future professional in the fitness and nutrition industry is very similar when it comes to support and is very exciting and challenging.
Here are a few pieces of advice I wish I had known when I was starting:
- **Embrace Continuous Learning:** The fitness and nutrition landscape is constantly evolving. Invest in your education, coaches, mentors, and programs in order to stay updated with the latest research to discover what works for and resonates best with you and your goals. This not only enhances your experience, results, and expertise but also builds credibility with your clients if you are an aspiring coach and with your community if you are looking to make a change in your health. Everyone is watching and inspired by us and our journeys, whether we realize it or not.
- **Prioritize Authentic Connections:** Building genuine relationships with your coach and fitness community if you are an enthusiast looking to take your physique to the next level and with your clients and colleagues if you are looking to make this a profession is paramount. Listen to and articulate needs and goals, and show genuine care for success. Authentic connections lead to trust, which is the foundation of a successful coaching relationship, whichever side of the relationship you are on.
- **Develop a Unique Approach:** Identify what sets you apart from other coaches and leverage that uniqueness, just the same way that a unique approach that fits YOUR goals and lifestyle sets you apart from the trends and fads out there (that people often get sucked into) as a newbie fitness participant/client.
Whether it’s a specialized training method, a unique nutrition strategy, or a holistic approach, your distinctiveness will attract clients who resonate with your style, and if you are a client, it will be what actually yields personalized results. The cookie cutter is out. Personalization and following your true deep desires are IN!
- **Stay Resilient:** The road to success is rarely smooth. There will be setbacks and challenges in either a career or fitness journey alike, and it is important to stay resilient and keep pushing forward. Learn from your failures, adapt, and continue to grow both personally and professionally.
- **Balance Passion with Business Acumen:** As a coach, while passion for fitness and nutrition is crucial, remember that you are also running a business. As a fitness enthusiast looking to hire a coach, you are also a mother/father/sister/brother/friend/professional/ etc. To have a cohesive experience, you must prioritize and make it work realistically. As a coach… Develop your business skills, understand your market, and create a solid business plan.
This balance will help you sustain and grow your coaching practice. As a client… Develop your non-negotiable, your time management skills, and your choices to be in alignment with what you say you want and what you realistically are ready, willing, and able to commit to in order to ensure success and alignment with all of the other roles you serve in a fruitful life.
- **Value Your Time and Expertise and Passions:** As a coach, I know it can be tempting to offer free services or undervalue your work when starting out. However, it’s important to recognize the value of your expertise and time. Set fair prices and ensure you are compensated adequately for the services you provide.
As a client, it is important to know your worth, and investing in yourself is not selfish but required as a foundation for improvement. It is OK to acknowledge that time and energy vampires may have to be removed or replaced with new goals and habits in order to put yourself and your health fitness goals as #1 priority.
- **Seek Mentorship and Community:** For both coaches and fitness clients, surround yourself with mentors and a supportive community. Learn from those who have been in the industry longer than you, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. A strong network can provide guidance, support, and opportunities for growth.
