Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Rengifo
Hi Daniela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Ibagué, Colombia, a small city with no direct flights from Miami at least.. In February 1999, at the age of six, I moved to Miami with my parents and younger brother. Our early years in the U.S. were marked by significant hardships. My parents worked two to three jobs at a time, despite not speaking English. They always ensured my brother and I were involved in sports, regardless of our financial struggles. This dedication instilled in me a lifelong passion for athletics, for which I am forever grateful.
Sports have been a constant in my life. I have played tennis, been on a swim team, participated in flag football, danced, joined numerous run clubs, and maintained a general enthusiasm for sports. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined a tennis league where a fellow player suggested I try a golf lesson. Initially, I found golf uninteresting, but that first lesson transformed my perspective. I began taking weekly lessons, teaching myself drills, watching instructional videos, and eventually became golf fitness certified through NASM. In just two years, I joined the Ladies Executive Golf Society and deeply immersed myself in the sport.
In addition to my athletic pursuits, I work full-time as a paralegal at a top law firm, where I have been for the past eight years. Although I was accepted into law school in 2017, I decided not to attend and have no regrets. My true calling has always been in sports and fitness.
I am actively involved in various fitness communities, including the Brickell and Coconut Grove run clubs, Miami run club, community yoga and Pilates classes, and StayFit305, which organizes quarterly fitness events. My passion for golf has led me to create content documenting my journey and collaborations with golf brands.
My story is a testament to resilience, the power of sports, and following one’s passion. I hope it inspires others to overcome their challenges and pursue what truly brings them joy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t been without its struggles. Initially, the financial hardships we faced as a family were immense. My parents worked multiple jobs, and money was always tight, which made it difficult to afford sports equipment and lessons all the time but they still worked hard enough to manage and prioritize that. Learning English was another significant challenge, as none of us spoke the language upon our arrival in Miami.
Currently, one of the biggest struggles is balancing a demanding full-time job as a paralegal while dedicating as much time as possible to golf. Time management is crucial as I juggle my professional responsibilities, intensive golf training, and maintaining a consistent practice routine. Learning golf itself was a challenge; it required patience, dedication, and a steep learning curve.
Creating my own content and building my brand organically in a competitive city like Miami has been another uphill battle. I had to teach myself the nuances of content creation, from filming and editing to social media strategy. Growing my brand required stepping out of my comfort zone, including traveling alone to attend golf tournaments and networking events.
Additionally, learning a third language and becoming certified in golf fitness while keeping up with my training and practice routine demanded a great deal of effort and perseverance. Each of these challenges pushed me to develop new skills and adapt, ultimately shaping me into a more resilient and resourceful individual.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a paralegal specializing in International Tax Law and estate planning for private wealth at a top law firm, where I’ve been working for the past eight years. In my professional role, I focus on providing comprehensive legal support in complex tax matters and estate planning for high-net-worth clients. This experience has honed my skills in organization, attention to detail, and multitasking.
Outside of my legal career, I’m deeply involved in the sports and fitness community, particularly in golf. I’m certified in golf fitness through NASM and actively create content that documents my golf journey. My content focuses on my progress, techniques, drills, and partnerships with various golf brands. This has allowed me to build a personal brand in a competitive market like Miami.
What sets me apart is my dedication to balancing a demanding full-time job with my passion for golf and fitness. I’ve managed to grow my brand organically through perseverance and a genuine love for the sport. Additionally, my involvement in community fitness events, such as run clubs and StayFit305, showcases my commitment to promoting an active lifestyle.
I’m most proud of the impact I’ve made in both my professional and personal life. In my legal career, I’ve provided invaluable support to my team. In the realm of sports and fitness, I’ve inspired others to take up golf and embrace a healthier lifestyle through my content and community involvement.
My journey from a young immigrant facing numerous challenges to a successful professional and passionate golfer is a testament to resilience and dedication. This unique blend of experiences and my ability to excel in diverse areas set me apart from others.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the value of resilience and adaptability. Life has thrown many challenges my way, from moving to a new country and learning a new language to balancing a demanding career with my passion for sports and fitness. Through each obstacle, I’ve discovered that resilience allows me to persevere and thrive, while adaptability enables me to navigate and overcome new situations with confidence.
This lesson has taught me to embrace change and view challenges as opportunities for growth. Whether it’s mastering a new sport like golf, building my personal brand, or excelling in my legal career, staying resilient and adaptable has been key to my success and fulfillment.
