Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ana Sanchez-Gal.
Hi Ana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My sister, Lola, and I founded Oliver Gal in Miami in 2012 with a vision to bring bespoke, iconic art that breaks the boundaries of collecting. The high-end art world was so exclusive and unattainable – and we wanted to change that by delivering high-quality, statement-making art that isn’t the cost of a small car.
Initially, we focused on the local market, offering a range of art styles inspired by haute couture on various materials, such as canvas and framed prints. We quickly gained popularity for our attention to detail and ability to capture contemporary trends. As demand grew, so did our operations. We expanded our production capabilities, which allowed us to maintain high-quality standards while meeting the increasing volume of orders.
We continue to make breakthroughs by incorporating unique embellishments like gold foil and hand-applied textures to our maximalist style, which set our products apart and caught the eye of upscale clientele in affluent urban areas across Florida, New York, Texas, and California.
My journey in the entrepreneur world began even earlier, in 2003, when I started AllPopArt.com from my apartment, financed by a credit card and an idea jotted on a napkin. Today, Oliver Gal is a multi-million dollar company with celebrity clients and loyal customers around the world, including hotels and restaurants. I’m proud to serve as the founder and CEO of this growing brand committed to promoting self-expression and joy.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oliver Gal’s journey has certainly not been without challenges, but each obstacle has been a stepping stone to greater success. Like any business, we’ve faced economic uncertainties and the unprecedented impacts of the Covid pandemic. These hurdles have tested our adaptability and resilience, but they’ve also underscored our commitment to creativity and excellence.
Navigating the complexities of the art and design industry, particularly the logistical nuances of sourcing and production, has been demanding yet deeply rewarding. This journey, with its highs and lows, has reinforced our mission to make walls happy and spaces lively, ensuring that every piece we create is not just seen but felt, bringing joy and color into homes and lives.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are particularly known for our bright, dopamine-inducing color palettes designed to make walls “happy.” We love applying the maximalist style to all categories of art and even mixing and matching styles, like abstract with photography.
In 2024, we proudly announced the success of our exclusive new collection, Box Me. This limited-edition 3D art series has already proven to resonate with our trade partners and target audiences by exceeding initial sales expectations and setting a new benchmark for craftsmanship and creativity in the art and interior design industries. The ‘Box Me’ collection features eight unique designs, each limited to only 50 pieces. Each design in the ‘Box Me’ collection reveals a whimsical 3D pattern of carefully selected objects, from glossy cherries to colorful gummy bears.
Thoughtfully encased within a deep wooden frame and protected by a plexiglass panel, these artworks make a bold statement, sure to captivate attention with their striking display. The collection offers a remarkable experience for those who seek to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and promises to leave a lasting impression on interior designers and art collectors alike.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
We believe that taking calculated risks is crucial for innovation and growth. Over the years, we’ve taken several strategic risks that have propelled our company forward, allowing us to innovate and redefine the boundaries of creativity and entrepreneurship. Whether it’s entering new markets, investing in new technology, or launching daring new product lines, we weigh each risk carefully, balancing our ambitions with practical analysis to ensure we continue leading in our industry.
A notable recent risk was our investment in enhancing our core manufacturing capabilities. We moved into a larger facility and expanded our range of machinery, a bold step towards scaling our production. Alongside, we ventured into the development of innovative 3D art. Each decision carried its risks, but with a clear vision and readiness to adapt, we calculated our steps carefully. These investments proved pivotal, culminating in the launch of our ‘Box Me’ 3D collection, which has been a tremendous success.
These moves have not only propelled our creative boundaries but also solidified our leadership in the art industry.
