Today, we’d like to introduce you to Babafemi Ogunkanmbi.
Hi Babafemi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Babafemi Ogunkanmbi is a passionate and talented creative mind with a sound understanding of Visual Arts. He bagged a Diploma in Arts, a Bachelor of Education in Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts, respectively. Babafemi has participated in numerous Art competitions and exhibitions at both National and International levels. His Artworks over the years revolve around two themes: equity and justice and clean planet.
Most of the time, he gets inspired by the culture and environment he finds, which propelled him to explore his art with a good blend of African styles by dominating African traditional motifs in his artworks. He chose to make use of environmental waste and discarded objects as part of his Art exploration, this is been done to reorientate people across the globe that waste is not yet wasted but a wealth to another creation.
My art is an expression of love for the environment, and I know that the story around it will endear more people around the world to art and culture. I am an agent of ‘social change,’ encouraging a responsible culture towards recycling with the mission to make everyone see that we live to make the world more livable and sustainable for ourselves and generations yet unborn.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been so rough, full of discouragement and distraction. Due to societal views and orientation to arts, more of them only love works of art but are not ready to pay for them.
This attitude makes the art very tiring and discounted. Lack of patronage and societal perceptions. So this makes it difficult for full-time studio artist to survive in their practices.
