Today, we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Lachman.
Hi Hailey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was eleven when I started playing with photoshop and video editing by creating fake trailers for my favorite films and shows. It was all just for fun back then, but it ignited something inside me – a love for the beauty and fashion of the cinema world.
Throughout my formative years, I immersed myself in the art of film and editing, seizing every opportunity to learn and grow. So when it was time to pick a major at Florida International University, there was no hesitation – Digital Communications & Media, with a focus on the Interactive track. This meant diving deep into video production, website editing, and everything the Adobe Creative Cloud had to offer.
To balance school and my interests, I took up what I would call “transitional jobs.” I spent two out of my three years of college working part-time jobs at Ulta Beauty and Sephora. These gave me the chance to express myself through beauty while keeping the bills paid and being flexible enough to go to school full-time, have a job, and balance internships to gain industry experience.
A study abroad opportunity in Spain that doubled as an internship in digital marketing was my first professional industry experience in 2022. From there, I landed at Minute Media, working on TikTok content for video games with the “DBLTAP Gaming” team.
Then came a partnership with social media star Kali Ledger, known to millions. I jumped at the chance to blend my love for beauty with digital creation, crafting content for her TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Next stop: Social Seen, a social media agency. Here, I worked with beauty and wellness clients like med spas, plastic surgeons, celebrity hair stylists, and celebrity makeup artist Ana Rizzieri, who has worked with Emma Roberts, Rose Byrne, etc.
Post-graduation, I ventured into the glasses industry with Freudenhaus / FHONE, where I channeled my creativity into graphic and website design, as well as social media management. But my heart led me back to meaningful work, landing me at a non-profit that supports children and families.
Today, I spend my days weaving stories that matter, keeping up with Kali Ledger, and always looking for new creative ventures. My journey has been a mix of playfulness, learning, and hard work. Each step has shaped me, painting a picture of resilience and dedication to what I love. Looking ahead, I’m excited for the stories yet to come, the challenges to tackle, and the beauty waiting to be discovered.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like all stories, there are, of course, struggles along the way. I had to really learn and prioritize time management. I completed my university studies in three and a half years, never taking a summer off since I started in June 2019, and finished in December 2022.
During this entire time, I was juggling part-time work as well as unpaid internships to gain experience. Going down the road of being in the social media marketing industry is that it is competitive. There will be a lot of no’s, and you have to learn not to take it personally, and of course, that only comes with time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
My professional job titles have never been consistent. I’ve held titles such as video editor, social media manager/strategist, graphic designer, and communications and marketing coordinator.
They all heavily involve video production for social media channels, brand identity and building, content strategy and trend analysis, creative content curation, deadline-oriented project management, audio mastering and engineering, and website design and maintenance. All things in the digital media world, I love to do.
My main focus and what I am most proud of are my video editing, I would say I am most known for that, as well as my organization priorities. I was always taught that pre-production is the most important to help during and after, and I pride myself on keeping everything organized in the physical and digital realm.
What sets me apart from others is my hunger to learn more. I want to dip my toes in every aspect of the industry and gain knowledge in any way I can. I know many people say the marketing industry is oversaturated right now. I do not see that as a threat, only an opportunity to learn from each other and grow together.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my journey is to never doubt myself and to always remember that everything works out at the right time. Missing out on an opportunity could be for a reason, and you should never feel too down about it because what is meant for you will happen.
Taking risks and putting yourself out there by making the first move and reaching out to those you want to work with is always a good idea. Even if you receive rejection, you can always learn from it and continue on your journey to where you are meant to go.
