Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisbeth Peguero.
Hi Lisbeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. Growing up, I loved to watch Miss Universe and fashion shows. While watching, I would always imagine myself walking the runway like them. At 13 years old, my mom enrolled me in a modeling academy called Barbizon and since then my passion and love for modeling grew quickly. After Barbizon, I participated in numerous fashion shows and pageants.
As time progressed, the road wasn’t as easy as I expected it to be. I felt like I didn’t belong in the modeling industry since I didn’t have the cookie-cutter model look. I was tall but didn’t have the typical 0-1 size. I remember I had a casting where the director told me I would have no chance in modeling and that I should find another career to follow.
After that, I lost my motivation for modeling, graduated high school, and migrated to Austin, TX at 19 years old. While being in a new place and away from my family, I started to feel lost and unmotivated. After trying different careers, my true passion kept calling me and I decided to follow it. I picked my modeling career back up and haven’t looked back.
In 2021, I started to reach out to modeling agencies and was signed with Neal Hamil. Since then, I started getting more modeling jobs and began to gain my confidence back. In 2022 I made the bold move to relocate to Miami as I knew there would be more opportunities for me. Since moving, doors have opened tremendously.
I’ve been signed to Premier Models and have walked for different seasons of New York Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week, and Art Basel. I’ve been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Elle UK, and published in numerous brand campaigns. I also launched my dream clothing store called Lisbeth Marie Shop where I sell resort wear for empowered women to feel sexy in their own skin – something I wish I felt when I started my career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not the smoothest. It was hard to stay true to myself when agencies tried to change me. I knocked on a lot of doors and tried my best to not be discouraged when some of them remained closed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a model and specialize in beauty modeling. What sets me apart from others is that I’m unapologetically myself in an industry that sometimes shames originality. A proud moment in my career was when my mom was able to watch me walk for the first time in New York Fashion Week. I’m proud of the work I’ve done to get where I’m at and my persistence in not taking no for an answer.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Accomplishing my goals, seeing my hard work pay off, and the feeling of achievement every time I finish a long shooting day make me happy. In the day-to-day, it makes me happy to have my morning coffee while I sit with my partner and talk about our plans for the week.
