Life & Work with Lucca Savi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucca Savi.

Lucca Savi

Hi Lucca, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I kicked off my journey into the world of DJing and music production around 2007. Back then, I was completely immersed in the hip-hop culture – you name it, DJing, beatmaking, breakdancing, even graffiti. And as hip hop flourished, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the burgeoning Brazilian baile funk scene, along with reggaeton. It was like a natural progression for me.

Initially, DJing was just a hobby, a passion project. But slowly, I began to realize that I could turn this passion into my profession. I dabbled in producing beats and remixes for fun and even had a rap duo project called “13ml” where I could experiment and refine my skills.

Fast forward a bit, and I found myself taking the plunge into the professional DJ scene, performing gigs in my hometown of Santos and venturing into São Paulo, Brazil’s bustling musical hub. But the big move came in 2015 when I made the leap to Miami, eager to further pursue my career.

It was in Miami where things really started to come together. I crossed paths with my manager and connected with an incredible team at Audio Vision Studios. There, not only did I create opportunities to perform and showcase my skills as a DJ, but I also got to dive into the world of engineering and production – shaping my identity in the vibrant Miami music scene.

Miami’s diverse cultural landscape was a revelation for me. It was here that I truly embraced the idea of being an international DJ, blending genres and cultures to create something uniquely my own. And of course, being surrounded by a thriving Brazilian community in Miami made it feel like home, always.

So here I am today, living my dream as a DJ, producer, and engineer, representing my Brazilian roots while embracing the global soundscape. It’s been quite the journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. One of the biggest challenges I faced was essentially hitting the reset button when I moved to Miami. It was like starting from scratch – a new country, new industry, new everything. I found myself asking, “How am I, a Brazilian DJ, going to navigate the American music industry and nightlife scene in such a competitive and diverse place?”

That initial hurdle of figuring out how to carve out my place in Miami’s bustling music scene was definitely a struggle. It required a lot of perseverance, networking, and adapting to a whole new environment. However, overcoming that challenge taught me resilience and pushed me to work even harder to establish myself in this new landscape.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a DJ, producer, and international artist, specializing in a diverse range of genres with a particular focus on Brazilian baile funk. What sets me apart is my ability to infuse a unique Brazilian flavor into my music, offering listeners a fresh and exotic experience that’s truly authentic. One of the things I’m most proud of is my knack for taking American and international songs and remixing them into Brazilian baile funk versions.

One of my biggest hits, “Dancin’ in Mandela,” garnered millions of streams and views across various platforms, connecting me with a wide audience worldwide. I believe my Brazilian roots and my dedication to showcasing them in mainstream music truly distinguish me from others in the industry, allowing me to bring something fresh and vibrant to the table.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Absolutely, networking and finding a mentor can be crucial for growth in any industry. Here’s what has worked well for me:

Stay Open-minded: Be open to new ideas, critiques, and opportunities. Sometimes, the best advice comes from unexpected sources.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People: Surround yourself with individuals who not only support your craft but are also honest with you. Constructive criticism is invaluable for growth.

Find Like-minded Individuals: Connect with people who are on a similar hustle and have the same level of perseverance as you. Sharing experiences and challenges can be incredibly motivating.

Seek Guidance: Look for a mentor who can provide guidance and support. My mentor, Johnny Mars, has been instrumental in not only refining my skills but also preparing me mentally for the challenges ahead.

Value Mentoring Beyond Skill Development: A good mentor isn’t just someone who knows the technical aspects of your field but also someone who can help you navigate the ups and downs of your journey.
