Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Ortiz Bayuelo.
Hi Victoria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hello! I’m delighted to have the opportunity to share my story with the VoyageMIA community. My story is a journey marked by multiple passions, challenges, and perseverance. I was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, with an innate curiosity and a constant thirst for creation. From a young age, I knew that my destiny was linked to entrepreneurship, communication, and creativity.
At the age of 7, I discovered my love for entrepreneurship by observing the owner of a variety store create unique accessories. Inspired, I began making and selling my own pieces to the neighbors in my neighborhood. I remember that among the best-selling items were earrings made with colorful buttons, which I carefully packaged in decorated matchboxes. Soon, this passion for creation merged with the desire to teach, leading me to share my skills and form a small group of entrepreneurial friends in my neighborhood.
As I grew up, my entrepreneurial spirit and creativity manifested in various forms. From selling candies and printed t-shirts to selling tickets to events I organized in my neighborhood. Through each initiative, I learned the value of effort and persistence. I grew up surrounded by love but also faced many economic and social difficulties, which confronted me with a reality I did not desire for my life.
These challenges, far from holding me back, propelled me to push boundaries and seek opportunities where others saw obstacles. With the unconditional support of the strong women in my family, who never limited my ability to dream, I learned that education would be my compass on this journey toward my dreams.
It was in school where journalism crossed my path, thanks to the inspiration of Santander, a passionate teacher who introduced me to the school radio station Ritmo Joven and sparked my interest in telling stories and amplifying the voices of children and young people in my country.
This discovery marked the beginning of a career in journalism that led me to explore various facets of this profession. From radio, where I had the opportunity to coordinate, host events, and interview nationally and internationally renowned artists, to journalistic chronicles, a narrative form that captivated me by allowing me to tell stories from a human and emotional perspective.
One of my most notable milestones was with my chronicle “Arthur Circus: A Family of a Thousand Joys,” which not only won first place in a national contest but was also published in more than 18 newspapers nationwide and opened the doors to new challenges in media such as Publimetro, El Heraldo, and Caracol TV.
Over time and with technological evolution, my horizons expanded into the digital world, where I found new opportunities to undertake and communicate. I began by sharing valuable content about travel and storytelling on social media and started an online store selling accessories, clothing, glasses, bags, and makeup.
At the same time, thanks to a full scholarship, I enrolled at the Universidad del Norte to study Social Communication and Journalism, while continuing to work in the field of journalism. I also worked as a waitress to cover my expenses and help my family.
Throughout my career, I never stopped learning and evolving. I supplemented the knowledge gained in university with diplomas, courses, and workshops on digital marketing, storytelling, content creation, and social media strategies, thus strengthening my entrepreneurship and embarking on a new path working with companies in managing their online presence. These experiences have taught me valuable lessons about self-management and problem-solving, fundamental to my professional development.
Today, in this new chapter of my life in the United States, I have turned my dreams into reality by founding two companies that reflect my passion and my vision of a more authentic and empowered world. Along with my fiancé, we created Seven Dye, a company that markets tie-dye products and accessories nationwide and focuses on empowering people and making them feel confident when dressing. Our mission is to dye the world with authenticity and joy with comfortable, versatile, and genderless clothing.
On the other hand, I merged my passion for creation, teaching, and communication with that of the digital world and created Scorp Agency, which encompasses more than 10 years of experience in social media, digital marketing, and communication, offering an impact proposal to boost the growth of personal brands and companies through a 360° digital strategy.
In summary, my story has been a journey of many adventures and valuable lessons. I have learned that entrepreneurship transcends mere financial success; it is a journey of self-discovery and service. My multiple passions have shown me that success is not limited to a single path but is found in continuous exploration, adaptation, and dedication to personal and professional growth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, my path has been far from peaceful. Since a young age, I found myself immersed in a reality marked by violence, crime, and drug abuse, issues I witnessed daily both in my neighborhood and in the city. This environment, coupled with financial difficulties, made the journey more challenging. I worked multiple jobs simultaneously to cover my expenses and support my family, which provided me with valuable lessons in perseverance and resilience.
For several years, personal situations led me to hide my true essence and compromise my mental health. However, each challenge became an opportunity for growth. Although the path was difficult, each obstacle strengthened my determination. Today, I continue to work tirelessly to turn my dreams into reality, trusting that each effort brings me closer to achieving my goals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
In my day-to-day life, I find great support in a variety of resources that help me give my best, both at work and in other aspects of life. Among my favorites are several inspiring podcasts, such as Decretum, Despertando, TED Talks, What You Do Matters by National Geographic, Understand Your Mind, Life Explained with Martha Debayle, Wake Up Your Finances by Julio Cañas, and The Podcast of Marian Rojas Estapé. Additionally, I use an excellent affirmation app called ‘I am,’ which helps me maintain a positive and focused mindset.
Another invaluable resource for me is the Notion platform, which I consider my second brain due to its ability to organize and manage all my tasks and projects efficiently. As for books, some that have had a significant impact on me are ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, ‘Contagious’ by Jonah Berger, ‘Fear Is Not an Option’ by Monica Berg, ‘Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High’ by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, and Ron McMillan, and ‘Good, Nice, and Cheap’ by David Gomez.
