Today we’d like to introduce you to Narshlie C. Mertilus.
Hi Narshlie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At 16, I discovered my love for coordinating and planning events, especially after planning my own memorable Sweet 16 celebration. Family and Friends noticed and began asking me to help with their events, gatherings, and outings.
By the time I turned 21, I knew I had a real passion for event designing and coordination which was solidified when I put together my own 21st birthday bash. But it was when I designed, coordinated, and planned my own wedding that’s when my family and closest friends encouraged me to turn my talents into a business.
That’s how Believe Events Planning & Design came to life! I dove headfirst into mastering my skills, spending a trial year understanding my niche, learning about clients, and figuring out the ins and outs of running a successful wedding and event designing and planning business. I even taught myself floral design, adding another dimension to my services.
With positive feedback rolling in, I decided to invest in my business and seek out mentors who helped me refine my skills even further. In 2024, I gave Believe Events a fresh look with a rebrand and updated my logo which perfectly matched my style, vision, and aesthetic for the future of the business. I started calling it my art because It’s more than just a business—it’s my art. I pour my heart into every design I create, and seeing my clients’ faces light up when they see my work is what makes it all worth it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve realized that in this business there are many challenges, one of them has been some clients may try to undervalue your work. It’s been a tough lesson, but I’ve learned not to compromise on the quality of my services to accommodate discounted rates.
Another challenge was realizing that not all friends and family will fully support your entrepreneurial journey. It was a hurdle I had to overcome, but I’ve toughened up and don’t let it affect me anymore. It’s often strangers who become the loudest supporters, and I’m grateful for my amazing clients who continue to cheer me on even after booking with me.
Finding the right clientele has also been challenging, but I’m okay with not being fully booked all the time. What matters most to me is having a handful of clients who trust me to bring their vision to life. I put my heart and soul into every event, and that’s what truly matters to me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is really rooted in scripture, so every little thing, like the name, the design, how things look, and how we plan, is all super intentional. I’m all about paying attention to the tiniest details in my artistry, making sure each part of what I do has real purpose and meaning.
What sets me apart is how intentional I am in everything. I really take my time to make sure everything turns out just right. I love putting in the effort to create events that people will remember forever.
We’re basically a one-stop shop. We do ALL events, even photoshoot designing and styling. Our most popular service is our full design and planning package. It’s so fun when clients let us go wild with their theme and let us create something that’ll stick with them forever.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next few years, I envision my business continuing to cater to the clientele I’m currently striving to connect with. I aim to expand my services to encompass both intimate gatherings and grand events, becoming known as a trendsetter in the industry with everyone admiring my unique artistic touch!
