Rising Stars: Meet Jol Monteiro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jol Monteiro.

Jol Monteiro

Hi Jol, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always drawn to music as a child. My first memory of singing in front of an audience was at 9 years old singing to my family a new song I had taught myself while playing the guitar. I then became involved in music programs at school and was given the tools to grow as a musician.

I studied music in college and would dream of releasing music as an artist. It wasn’t until the loss of my grandma that I realized I needed to make the most of my time here on this earth, as she did. I released my first song in April of 2021 and have been producing and recording my music ever since; being a part of each aspect of the art I share with the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Releasing part of yourself/your story to the world is daunting. However, it is so freeing to be able to channel my emotions and memories through lyrics and melody creating my songs. Making music is something I always want to do regardless of how many people listen to me.

I have been shown an immense amount of love that has encouraged me to continue to share my emotions through music to bring others together. Whether or not my songs relate with everyone, I want my music to resonate in the hearts of people of all different journeys.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I teach voice and piano in South Florida. I studied vocal coaching and vocal performance in college. Aside from the technical aspect of my job, I love that I am able to connect with my students and their families. Sharing your voice is such a vulnerable thing to do. Each person has a different voice and I am always honored to be able to guide other singers and creatives in every way I can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I started releasing music before I had as big of a platform as I do today. I took the step of faith first, and then worked like crazy after. I’ve thankfully been able to catch the attention of millions of people with silly videos and my appearance, but what is most important to me is that my music is heard.

Once I decided to fully commit to pushing my craft forward, I received so much love from people I didn’t know and was able to connect with other creatives around the world!
