My journey with Keys Koquito is deeply rooted in my Miami upbringing and the rich heritage of my Cuban family. My parents, both Miami natives, carried within them the legacy of our Cuban roots and instilled a deep appreciation for our family heritage and the values of hard work, resilience, and community into my brother and me.
In fact, my mother Yolie’s success in running a thriving online cake business on Etsy for over a decade was my main source of inspiration for Keys Koquito. She always pushed me to follow my dreams and passions, which ignited my love for entrepreneurship and led me down an incredibly creative and crafty path. She showed me that with hard work, dedication, and determination, anything that I put my mind and heart into is possible.
As I ventured deeper into my creative pursuits, I realized that I wanted to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become my own boss just as she had been able to be for herself. With the unwavering support of my family, I made the decision to step away from corporate life to pursue Keys Koquito full-time in September of 2023 with my mom by my side. Her wisdom, guidance, and unwavering belief in me have been the cornerstone of our success, and I am endlessly grateful for her presence by my side.
Since then, Keys Koquito has flourished into a thriving business, offering a diverse array of products that embody the essence of island living. Each creation is infused with the warmth and vibrancy of our Cuban heritage, from our body care items to our artisanal candles that spark memories of sun-kissed beaches and ocean breezes.
Every product we create is infused with our blood, sweat, and tears, meticulously crafted with all our love and dedication. For us, it’s not just about creating something beautiful; it’s about sharing a piece of our story with the world and spreading joy and positivity to all who see us and our products.
Today, alongside my cherished business partner and mother, I am grateful to wake up each day doing what I love. Surrounded by a supportive community and fueled by the enduring spirit of our family’s Cuban heritage, our journey with Keys Koquito is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the profound impact of honoring one’s roots while embracing the journey ahead.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Navigating the journey with Keys Koquito has been a blend of fulfillment and challenges. Most of our products are handmade at home, requiring hours of careful craftsmanship to bring them to life. From sewing together coconut shell purses to hand-pouring candles, each item is instilled with a labor of love that simply cannot be replicated by mass production.
My commitment to authenticity and quality is unwavering. I meticulously source the finest ingredients for our body care items, ensuring they meet the highest standards of purity and effectiveness. From the coconut oil in our salt scrubs to the essential oils in our candles, every component is carefully selected to stay true to myself and my customers.
The process of creating our koquito cakes is no exception. Each cake is a labor of love, crafted with the finest ingredients and infused with the essence of our Cuban heritage. From traditional flavors like guava to indulgent treats like dulce de leche, every bite is a testament to our commitment to quality and authenticity.
In my relentless pursuit of excellence for Keys Koquito, I’ve embarked on a quest to source the highest quality materials for our crystal carvings and pieces. I’ve sought out reputable suppliers who share our commitment to authenticity and integrity.
Unfortunately, the market is full of suppliers that sell counterfeit crystals, often staging glass or resin as genuine stones. This deceptive practice not only compromises the integrity of the products but also undermines the trust of consumers seeking authentic crystal pieces.
By partnering with trusted suppliers, I’ve been able to secure a reliable source of crystals that align with our vision of providing genuine, soul-nourishing products to our customers. It requires meticulous research and a keen eye for quality. Overcoming these hurdles has been crucial in our quest to provide customers with genuine, ethically sourced crystal carvings.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As someone who is usually on the side of caution, I’ve never considered myself a natural risk-taker. However, there’s one significant risk that stands out in my journey—the decision to leave behind the security of my desk job and pursue my business, Keys Koquito, full-time. Leaving the stability of an office job to dive headfirst into solo entrepreneurship was a monumental leap of faith for me.
Looking back on it now, I realize that this decision was the single biggest risk I’ve taken in my life. It meant stepping into the unknown, embracing uncertainty, and venturing outside of my comfort zone in pursuit of something greater. While the journey has been filled with challenges and moments of doubt, it has also been incredibly rewarding. Despite my inherent aversion to risk, I was driven by a deep-seated passion for my business and a conviction that pursuing my entrepreneurial dreams was worth the uncertainty.
Taking this leap of faith has allowed me to pour my heart and soul into Keys Koquito, channeling my creativity and passion into every aspect of the business. And, in the end, it’s a risk that has paid off in ways I never could have imagined. It has led me to discover a sense of fulfillment and purpose that I never found in the confines of a desk job, and it has opened doors to opportunities for growth and success that I once thought were out of reach.
This experience has taught me that sometimes, the greatest rewards in life lie just beyond our comfort zones. By taking calculated risks and embracing the unknown, we can unlock new possibilities and realize our fullest potential. And while I may not consider myself a natural risk-taker, I am grateful for the courage to take that one monumental risk that changed the course of my life for the better.
