Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyd Ferguson.
Hi Cyd, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a passionate Civil Litigator who was called to the Bar of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas at the young and vibrant age of 23. I obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Law and Criminal Justice from the University of The Bahamas (then the College of The Bahamas) in 2012. I then read Law at The University of The West Indies, Cave Hill Barbados where I graduated with Upper Second Class Honors, Bachelor of Laws in 2015.
I received my Certificate of Legal Education from the Eugene Dupuch Law School in Nassau, The Bahamas in September 2017 and was thereafter called to the Bar of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. I regularly appear before the Magistrate’s Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal of The Bahamas, I have also appeared before The Judicial Committee of The Privy Council.
My area of practice includes civil and commercial litigation, debt collection and asset recovery, negligence claims, contractual disputes, domestic violence, family and children matters, and probate and estate litigation. My desire for social and community change encouraged me to join the great Rotaract Club of East Nassau in August 2015 and I have been selflessly serving ever since. The Rotary International Organization is a top-rated charity and professional development organization, located in just about every country in the World.
After just 6 months as a member of the Rotaract Club of East Nassau, I served as Secretary in 2016, Secretary in 2017, President in 2018, Membership Chair in 2020, and Membership Chair in 2022. In 2017, I became a Rotary Advisor for the Christian Heritage Junior School’s Interact Club until 2020, Thereafter in 2022, I became the Rotary Advisor for the Early Act Club of Genesis Academy and I currently serve in this role.
I have served the Rotaract Club of East Nassau for 8+ years and in February 2023, I became a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau. I have held various positions at the Club and Rotaract/Rotary District Level and my life and conduct are proudly mandated by the Rotary Organization’s 4-way test, “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships and Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
I participate in various legal aid clinics, as giving my vocation back to society is a priority. In 2023, I started my own law firm, Covenant Legal Services. I am a member of The Light Church located in The Bahamas and most importantly I am a proud mother to 5-year-old Shih tzu, Mimosa, and a grandmother to an 11-month-old puppy, Lady Martini.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been easy. During my time at the University of the West Indies, I recall twice wanting to quit and drop out, as the pressures of school and taxing family life were becoming discouraging. But I always remembered that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me and God would never put a task in front of me, without seeing me through it to the end.
Professionally, being a strong-willed female attorney can be intimidating and scary for many. I have used this as an encouragement to continue to inspire others, who may be afraid to be 100% authentic and 100% fearless in a world where the ones you expect to support you, do not support you. My story thus far is a testimony that there is nothing I cannot do, and be successful at.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to start a family in the short future. I want my future children and spouse to see that all things are possible, all you need to do is step out on faith and start. The road will not always be easy, but this journey is so worth it. Professionally, I desire a self-sustaining, consistent legal practice and for Covenant’s name to be known for competent and efficient legal services all over the entire Bahamian archipelago.
