Life & Work with Dwayne Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Parker.

Dwayne Parker

Hi Dwayne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Time waits for no one. Looking back I am very blessed to be where I am today. I am an actor, director, producer, editor, and filmmaker. I am also a high school guidance counselor. I started out as a broadcast journalist graduate working at NBC in production. My journey allowed me to work at MSNBC and the Oxygen Network in production as well.

I then decided to get my master’s in guidance and pursue a career in school counseling, which I still do to this day. However, my love is still in entertainment and I am an artist at heart. I have my own production company called Knight 7 Productions, where I have developed and produced films and TV shows like VEX which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life in general has struggles and I am far from perfect. Sometimes you just want to give up. However, I am a very optimistic person and that helps. Opportunities not taken, financial stress, auditions that haven’t come to fruition, and sometimes people that don’t have your best interest at heart. I think that if life was a smooth road the journey would not be fulfilling.

I look forward to success and getting to the mountaintop. I look forward to achieving everything that I set out to accomplish and things I haven’t dreamed of yet. Obstacles will always stand before me but I have faith that if I make the path easier for others the energy will be reciprocated at some point and the road will be made a bit easier for me to travel.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself a versatile artist. I am always creating. Currently, I create art behind and in front of the camera as an actor, director, and filmmaker. I also create by helping to mold future generations to become their best through providing opportunity and direction and by building their confidence through leadership as a high school guidance counselor. I specialize in both of those areas and enjoy my work.

In the area of filmmaking, I am most proud of my production credits. where I was able to create and distribute my first independent project VEX, currently streaming on Amazon Prime. It was self-financed, and I starred, wrote, produced, edited, and directed that project. I am currently working on a daytime talk show with host Kathleen Liautaud, called The Kaye Liautaud Show. I have worked with her before and felt that she had the skills and the talent to host a show that would inspire, and motivate.

Lastly, I am working with Landra V. Phillips, creator of Asunder the Series to co-direct, write, and produce the final season, it has been an amazing journey and the show will end with a bang. I am also working on a sequel to VEX called VEX Reloaded. The script is going through final rewrites and promises to be an exciting addition to the VEX franchise. In my world as a guidance counselor, I am proud of all my students, but most of all of my work building independent thinkers and leaders as the chapter advisor for My Brothers and Sisters Keeper. This was President Obama’s last initiative before he left office to create something that would help young men and now young women to become successful by providing opportunities that will help them overcome obstacles in life.

I am proud of the chapter I have because of the student leaders that are being developed. Students like Jemal Thornhill, Serenity Dickerson, Jaylon Blair, and Tasnim Prionti. They have committed themselves to community service and learning financial literacy that actually impacts the communities they are in and they are truly examples to their peers.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There is nothing to dislike about Miami, I only dislike that I can’t visit as often as I like. The peace that comes with Miami is what I like the best. The energy is just different, the air, the beaches the people. It’s a place where you are forced to relax and have fun.

Something is wrong if you are unable to enjoy what Miami has to offer. I remember going to a karaoke bar in the area and just being around the friendly faces. My times have always resulted in good memories.
