Life & Work with Jeff Schader

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Schader.

Jeff Schader

Hi Jeff, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I founded The Skins Factory, an American, award-winning UI/UX design studio back in late 2000, We’ve designed applications & websites for some of the world’s biggest global brands, but also many mid-size companies and extraordinary startups. I love working with small companies, helping them achieve their dreams & goals because I remember exactly what it was like starting up the design studio.

Starting up a company is incredibly scary and absolutely thrilling at the same time, so being able to help entrepreneurs achieve what they’ve set out to achieve, is extremely rewarding. Early on, I went after big clients so that I could name-drop them to everyone else. It seemed to work as in the first 5 years we worked on projects for Microsoft, Disney, TDK, AT&T, Bank of America, and others. From there it just snowballed and the work kept pouring in.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When we started and for really the first decade, we were one of the first and few UI/UX design studios around. These days there are far more competitors out there. To stand out, we rely heavily on our outstanding portfolio, client list, and experience. Running a company is really about adapting and prognosticating the future of your industry. Being complacent is the easiest and quickest way to ruin. You have to constantly move forward or risk being left behind.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve had the pleasure of working on some incredible projects throughout my career at The Skins Factory. A few notable projects: Designing the online music store for The Walt Disney Company. Having our work shipped on Windows OS to over a billion users worldwide was another milestone for us.

We design the UI/UX for applications and websites. We design all the visual graphics you see when using a mobile, browser, or desktop app and how the user will interact with the app. We don’t code. That’s left up to the developers. So if a company needs a mobile app designed or a web-based productivity application, they come to us.

As The Skins Factory is now in its 24th year, there really hasn’t been much we haven’t designed. We’ve done countless application & web design projects for fintech, healthcare, entertainment, and cybersecurity companies and so many other industries.

What matters most to you? Why?
Design has always been my driving passion, serving as a conduit to transform abstract concepts into concrete reality. I’ve done this in total for over 26 years and I love what I do.

It’s challenging to categorize what I do as work because I genuinely relish the creative process and every aspect it entails. Imagine doing the same thing for over 2 decades and never losing that passion you had when you first started. That’s my reality.
