Life & Work with Imani Antoine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Antoine.

Imani Antoine

Hi Imani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ok, so I am currently 22 years old. I graduated amid Covid, and I had plans on going to the army. Before graduation, I had always had a passion for makeup and cosmetics, lashes, extensions, etc. Just being pretty and being done up. My plans for going to the army did not fall through. I backed out at the very last minute and I didn’t have any urgency for going to college so, I took a lash course with a friend of my sister’s name Kelly!

And at the time, it looked way easier than it was doing it, I took my class on August 22, 2020, 2 months after graduating and I have been working towards my goal of being a well-known lash artist nonstop, I started to practice on anybody I could find because I was soooo desperate to get the technique down the pack. In between while waiting for my clientele to build up, I ran through a handful of jobs, in customer service, I hated it!! And I knew that working for someone was not something I wanted to do but the bills were billed!

Lol so in 2021, I found a shop close to where I was living at the time I met this business-driven lady her name was Shanique one thing I can say that she taught me was to get the money lol but also put the clients needs first, I’ll always remember that a year later, I was able to maneuver and get a suite by myself still working a job and balancing that out I think that taught me discipline for my business I feel like. Making sure that I clocked in on time and met the requirements of the job, I took the same mindset and applied it to my business.

It has been a roller coaster in the business journey but there is nothing that I wouldn’t do differently if I had to do it all over again, I love the art of meeting new people and making them love their self 10x more than when they come to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No honestly, my biggest struggle was gaining knowledge, like it so many things that I want to know and still don’t know while running a business, and I feel like it’s only a struggle because asking other business owners for advice or some help, they think that it will hinder their business.

Researching my questions sometimes helped but I feel like with someone breaking it down to me I feel like I comprehended it more clearly, also my main struggle when I first started was thinking that I needed to work a job to get the funding I wanted to fund my business. Incorrect!

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been currently a licensed esthetician for 3 years now. I specialize in lash extensions, lip fillers & facials.

Not a lot of people know who I am & that is my goal for 2024 to be well-known in the industry of other estheticians. But what I can say is that my clients know me well for just being who I am, charismatic, and outgoing, I’m always the listening ear for them.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I will say that one thing I’ve learned in my journey is, that God had everything written for me already so, whatever I’m doing now that I feel isn’t enough or not meeting the expectations of others.

God already knows what he has in store for me and wrote my story differently from others so I can’t compare or gloat over “what they have” or “what they’ve done”, I just focus on my journey and where I’m going and what god has set for me to get there.
