Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Volpi.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always loved photography, interviews, movies, TV shows, basically everything you can create with a camera. Having that in mind, I got my first camera in 2016 and started photographing my friends to build a portfolio and learn about photography.
At that time, I wanted to start a career in fashion. Later on, a friend of mine needed her apartment photographed and as soon as I got the first shots, I fell in love. After that, I did specials at Casacor São Paulo for 2 years and that’s when I started introducing myself into the architectural field.
In 2018, I came to Miami for work for the first time. I would reach out to architects and designers through Instagram, Linkedin, and Google to introduce and show my work. Luckily, I met great designers and clients I still have to this day. 6 years later, I can say I have the best clients I could ever ask for.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The beginning of every road is tough. Even though I’ve always loved cameras and photography, it took me a while to get that “click” – no pun intended – and realize I could work with something I’ve always loved. There is a lot to figure out when you’re getting started. You don’t know anyone, how to structure your work, your fees, how you approach a problem, etc.
With photography, if you have a camera, you can learn a lot. I used my own house and my friend’s to start building a portfolio. That gave me content to start a website and have a way to contact professionals. With time we see that every mistake can solve a problem. We don’t understand in the present but the future always shows us the solution and why something happened.
Luckily, I’ve always had my family and friends supporting me, which helps.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Architectural and Interior Design photographer. To be honest, I like to have fun while I work.
Clients spend months or years developing a project and most times the photoshoot is the last day they will see their project finished. So I know that is the day we have to get photos done. I love what I do. I can start a photoshoot at 6 am, finish at 8 pm, and come back the next day, but I know it will be worth it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Haha. I started working in Miami in 2018 because I wanted to go to a Taylor Swift concert in August of that year. I guess I can say she kinda changed my life a bit.
I honestly don’t know how things would be if I wasn’t so into her music. I wanted to come and that made me email every single designer in Miami. I combined two things that I wanted and it worked out.
