Meet Krisia Gattas of Pelvic Therapy South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krisia Gattas.

Krisia Gattas

Hi Krisia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been passionate about pelvic floor physical therapy ever since I was in physical therapy school and had my last internship in a pelvic floor clinic. I realized how little awareness there was on pelvic health, and how misdiagnosed many of the conditions in pelvic health were, and knew I wanted to specialize in this field to make pelvic health more recognized and more mainstream in the US.

After working for outpatient physical therapy clinics for a few years, I decided I wanted to open up my own clinic – Pelvic Therapy in South Florida. I wanted to go on my own so I could treat patients the way I wanted to – in a personalized, one-on-one setting.

I decided I wanted to offer one-hour treatments, hands-on with the physical therapist to be able to truly make a difference in patients’ symptoms and conditions instead of seeing the patients for 20 minutes only, and then having them do exercises with a physical therapy aide. It has now been two years, and I have expanded my practice to a bigger space and two physical therapists in our location!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening up a new business is never easy. I have extensive training in my career and continue to take continuing education to improve my clinical practice, but I did not have any business experience per se. I had to take a few business courses on accounting, finance management, and hiring.

I was living in New Jersey before moving to Miami in 2020 and decided to open up my practice in 2021. It was challenging to open up a practice as I did not have as many connections here in Miami. However, I found like-minded practitioners and patients whom I connected with, which helped grow my connections in the city and therefore grow the practice.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pelvic Therapy in South Florida?
Pelvic Therapy South Florida is a physical therapy clinic specializing in treating patients with pelvic floor and orthopedic conditions.

Our team of physical therapists have dedicated their career to learning and researching how to treat pelvic floor dysfunction including pelvic pain, bowel and bladder conditions, and pregnancy and postpartum issues. Some of these issues may include urinary incontinence, prolapse, nerve compression, tailbone pain, painful intercourse, and endometriosis, among others. We also offer birth preparation sessions for expectant mothers.

I am so incredibly proud of our practice and the improvement our patients report! Our clinic is set apart from others as we offer one-on-one treatment sessions for an entire hour with the physical therapist who is an expert in the pelvic health field. We don’t only focus on symptoms – we focus on finding the root cause of the issue so that all symptoms not only go away but stay away.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My happy days are composed of waking up in the morning, slowly drinking my coffee, and then spending the day with my husband and my one-year-old son. I realized that the more simple things in life, like reading a book, going on a walk, having a coffee with a friend, or spending the day at the beach are sometimes the most enjoyable.

I am happy when I get to move, either in kickboxing or Pilates. Being able to wake up every morning and have the purpose of going to work and making people feel better is truly rewarding.
