Today we’d like to introduce you to Taeisha Jamison.
Hi Taeisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I wanted to be a nurse at the age of 4. I knew that I wanted to help others in many different capacities. I obtained my certification as a nurse assistant and medical assistant in high school and later went on to college.
I got married and had children first so that made college and working even more challenging. But I was determined to be successful! After graduating college, I moved back home to Chicago, now divorced and a single mom. I began my journey with a career in laboratories.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a bumpy road for me and my journey but to have overcome some of the obstacles and challenges that I have faced is therapeutic for me. The mountains I had to climb were merely the catalyst for my growth and I’m thankful. Being a single mom is extremely rewarding but also difficult at times.
The biggest hurdle would be losing my nine-year-old daughter due to asthma. I’ve faced poverty, domestic violence/abuse, racism, stereotyping, and bullying, but nothing was more terrifying than the loss of her. Without the support of God, my parents, my family, and a few close friends, I definitely wouldn’t be here today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an entrepreneur in the medical field. I started Lelani Labs &Poct LLC, to give back to the asthmatic children of every community.
What sets me apart is that my goal is to offer this service free of charge. I’m proud to be able to honor my daughter in this way and to continue her legacy of helping others because she also enjoys being of service to others.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I tell almost everyone that my biggest lesson of the covid pandemic was to DIY.
I became extremely resourceful during this time and it has helped me in my career and my life in general. Again, I look at difficulties as enzymes. They speed up my growth!
