Today we’d like to introduce you to Florencia Rizzo.
Hi Florencia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in the heart of Buenos Aires, I emigrated to Miami in 2013, transforming the city into my artistic and personal platform. I am a talented actress, comedian, photographer, and content producer, and my versatility and authenticity have positioned me as one of the Argentine artists most prominent in the United States.
My journey into the world of stand-up comedy began in 2018, almost by chance, after being inspired by a book I purchased on Amazon, “How to Write Comedy.” My debut, the one-woman show “Sin Filtro,” resonated both in Miami and Buenos Aires, leading me to perform in various cities and solidify my space in the comedy scene. During the pandemic, I demonstrated my resilience and creativity by writing, producing, and directing my virtual stand-up “Distancia Social,” which was broadcast in more than 10 countries, breaking barriers and connecting cultures through laughter.
I have lit up the stage at renowned events in Miami, including the legendary “Miami Improv” and the Trail Theater with “Argentinos Comedy Club,” with which I also toured Orlando, Washington, and even Broadway. In addition to my live presence, I host the podcast “Uno per Semana” on the main streaming platforms. My daily life as an immigrant mother of four children is shared through stories and videos on my account @rizzocomedy, where my natural charisma and honesty offer a fresh and genuine perspective.
Before diving into comedy, I had a distinguished career in broadcasting. I am also a committed philanthropist, collaborating with organizations such as Manos del Sur and Fidec. Passionate about Argentine culture, I aim to preserve its traditions and love for my homeland from Miami. My life is marked by a deep love for music, my large and beloved family, and an unbreakable friendship with my childhood friends and those I have gained along the way as an immigrant.
On stage and off, I draw inspiration from my daily life, creating stories that my audience can relate to and find comfort in, even in the most difficult moments. With confirmed dates extending until 2024, I continue to delight my international audience with my show “Retocada,” while I pursue new dreams, such as having my radio show in Miami.
I am more than an artist; I am a storyteller, a dedicated mother, a loyal friend, and an eternal dreamer. My ability to weave comedy, empathy, and reality has established my place as an unforgettable voice in the world of entertainment and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So, imagine diving into the stand-up comedy scene at 40, all while juggling life as an immigrant mom of four in the craziness of Miami. Late-night laughs on stage clash with early-morning kid duties, and somehow, crafting jokes becomes my sanity in the middle of family mayhem. Adapting to a new culture and language? Yeah, that’s a wild ride.
But hey, finding humor in the daily struggles makes it all worthwhile. The stage becomes my therapy, turning the chaos of life into comedy gold. It’s not your typical journey, but weaving immigrant tales and the ups and downs of mom life into my jokes brings a unique vibe to Miami’s comedy scene. Who knew passion could be so relentless, no matter your age or circumstances? Laughter truly becomes the glue holding it all together.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a stand-up comedian whose career began late in life, right when 40’s knocked on my door. Making people laugh has become my passion and my full-time job.
Being on the stage is a channeling experience for me, is where I feel complete, looking back I do realize everything I did has led me to this. I am proud of being a full-time mom of four and being able to show them that is never too late to follow your dreams and start from scratch as many times as needed. Sky and Jimmy Fallon are my next objectives!
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Through this wild ride of being a woman in stand-up, juggling motherhood, navigating life as an immigrant, and starting from ground zero, the most crucial lesson slapped me in the face: resilience is my secret sauce. It’s not just about crafting killer punchlines; it’s about bouncing back from epic fails, balancing a chaotic family life, and embracing the uncertainty of starting fresh.
Every stumble is just a setup for a killer comeback, and finding the funny in chaos is a superpower. It’s not a smooth journey, but damn, the ability to roll with the punches makes the laughter even sweeter. Turns out, the key to rocking the comedy stage and this crazy thing called life is just dusting off and laughing your way through the mess.
