Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Martin.
Hi Joy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If I had to choose a starting point that would best represent the beginning of my story, it would be the moment I decided to walk away from the first marketing agency I had founded. It was a successful business that I had built from the ground up, but something within me knew that it was time to move on and follow a different path.
I knew it was time to move on before I even fully understood where that path would lead me. But that’s the thing about following your intuition – it often leads you to the most unexpected places, but always for a reason.
I started my first business to serve clients and help them grow their businesses and brands through whatever it took – creative marketing strategies, innovative campaigns, and a deep understanding of what social media and digital marketing could do for them. But as time went on, I started to realize that my true passion was not just in helping others grow, but also in creating a business that aligned with my values and beliefs.
I’m a firm believer in the power of faith and using our gifts to serve a higher purpose. With that being said, I also know the consequences of using those gifts in a way that goes against our moral compass. Social media, while an incredibly powerful tool for business growth, can also be a place where authenticity and integrity can get easily lost if not approached with the right intentions.
I believe social media can connect us in ways the media of the past never could, and with that power, we have a responsibility to use it for good. And I saw the pandemic as an opportunity to do just that – to use my knowledge, experience, and expertise to build an agency that not only helps businesses grow but also aligns with a greater purpose. One that’s legacy-driven.
My decision to leave my first agency led to the birth of a new one – Emerge Marketing Co. I remember feeling an intense sense of fear, uncertainty, and doubt during that transition, but I also knew that following my intuition and taking a leap of faith would lead me to where I needed to be.
And it did.
Through this journey, I’ve learned that, as entrepreneurs, we have the power to build a world where our work and personal values (and beliefs) are inextricably intertwined.
Where success is not just measured by profit, but also by the positive impact we make on others and the world around us. Where worth is not defined by external validation, but rather from within. Hustle culture is replaced by self-care and balance, allowing us to show up for our clients and ourselves with compassion, authenticity, and intention.
At Emerge Marketing Co., it’s not just about the services we provide or the strategies we create. It’s about building a community of businesses, brands, and people who are ready to use social media as a force for good.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Defining what a “smooth road” looks like can be a subjective experience. For some, it may mean having a steady flow of clients and profits, while for others it may mean finding a sense of balance and purpose in their work. For me, it was a combination of both.
While I am grateful for the growth and value that Emerge Marketing Co. has brought to my life, it would be disingenuous to say that the road has been completely smooth. Like any business, we have faced challenges and obstacles along the way. However, through these struggles, I have found strength, resilience, and a deeper understanding of my purpose.
One of the struggles I faced was learning how to set boundaries and prioritize my well-being while running a business. I felt the pressure to always be on, to constantly hustle, and to put aside my own needs to grow the company.
I believed that I could push through any mental and physical exhaustion because “that’s what it takes to be successful.” Additionally, I often felt like I had to prove myself and work harder to gain recognition and respect – even though my work spoke for itself.
But as I quickly learned, that mindset wasn’t healthy or sustainable. It led to burnout, disconnect, stress, and a lack of fulfillment in my work. It led me to question if the sacrifices I was making were truly worth it.
Through this experience, I learned the importance of self-care and setting boundaries. I now prioritize my well-being and make sure to take breaks, delegate tasks, and say no when necessary. I learned the impact of taking care of myself, not just for my own sake, but for the success and growth of my business as well.
It allows me to create a more holistic approach to my work, where I am not just focused on results and numbers, but also on the well-being of our team and clients. I believe that by taking care of ourselves, we are better equipped to serve and support others.
As you know, we’re big fans of Emerge Marketing Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Emerge Marketing Co. was founded as an all-inclusive digital marketing and social media agency built on the belief that success (and sustainability) can be achieved without sacrificing our well-being.
We specialize in developing personalized social media and digital marketing strategies for businesses of all sizes, with a focus on elevating women-owned businesses, women-led brands, and female entrepreneurs.
However, we don’t only work with women, we support and empower anyone ready to make a positive impact in their industry, and in the world. What sets us apart is our approach to marketing and our emphasis on balancing both personal and professional growth. We believe that a successful business starts with taking care of the individual behind it, and we aim to bring that mindset into our work with every client.
Behind every business, there are real people with real stories, real struggles, and real dreams. We don’t just see our clients as numbers or figures on a spreadsheet but as partners and collaborators on a mission to make a difference.
That’s what I’m the most proud of when it comes to our brand – our ability to connect with people on a deeper level that’s genuine, empathetic, and empowering. Think of us as your ally, your confidant, and your cheerleader. We’re here to support you, guide you, and inspire you every step of the way.
So what do I want our readers to know about us? Simply put – we are here for you. When you work with us, it’s not just about reaching your business goals on social media or online platforms, it’s about growing as a person and building a strong, sustainable foundation for your business.
What matters most to you?
It may seem cliche or even “expected”, but what matters most to me is God – it’s really that simple.
The will of God.
The love of God.
The grace of God.
The power of God.
The mercy of God.
The presence of God.
And whatever that looks like, for each person, I want to help them find it.
I believe that when we align ourselves with God’s will and allow Him to work through us, miracles happen. Not just in our businesses, but in our lives as a whole. I’ve seen, and experienced, firsthand the transformation that takes place when we tap into our faith and trust in God’s plan for us.
And that, to me, is what truly matters.
