Rising Stars: Meet Geneva Savage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geneva Savage.

Geneva Savage

Hi Geneva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started in film school. I ended up befriending the grad film students who invited me to work on their theses during the semester. Working on those as a production manager production designer and more, I created connections that kicked off where I am now.

I met people who wanted to create and offering my skills got me back on more sets and the ball just kept rolling. I went from working on indie projects with my friends to getting a job on a network show filming in my hometown.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The film world relies heavily on networking. But then 2020 covid hit and I lost half of my sophomore and all of my junior year of in-person experience to online school.

Fortunately, I was back in classes my senior year where I met my grad friends and my film world began moving again. I think we were all desperate after almost two years of stagnancy to create.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a filmmaker. I specialize in being a helpful crew member. A can-do attitude gets you placed on a film set. I’m a natural cheerleader. I think enthusiasm is important to create a space that fuels creative energy. I can wear many hats as one could say.

Like any well-oiled machine, all parts need to be kept moving which is why I started as a production manager which was me helping keep the set organized. But I’ve always been a detail-oriented person so I found I had a knack for the art department, production design, props, costumes, etc. I love building the layers of a story to capture the audience.

The best movies are the ones where you forget they’re a movie! I am most proud of being able to say I am a part of this community. When I was younger, the word “networking” seemed so daunting. But now when I think of the word, it reminds me of my friends because “networking” thrives off of authenticity. That’s how I got where I am today.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you want to get into film and don’t know where to start… create with your friends. Surround yourself with like-minded people.
