Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo O’Connor.
Margo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Margo & I’m a true Florida native. I grew up on the water boating, diving, and fishing from an early age. In my early 20s, I joined the yachting industry, working my way up through the ranks, to Chief Stew.
After 7+ years, countless countries, states, and newfound friendships, I was ready to settle down and enjoy my time at home. While yachting provided me with memories to last a lifetime, attention to detail, communication skills, and many more important life skills, I missed out on a lot of life milestones with my family and friends. I especially missed out on sweet silver lab, Abby.
Hence, “The Local Stew” was born! With my years of yachting and sportfishing contacts, it seemed like a no-brainer to cater to local boats that don’t have an interior crew. Starting my own business has been exciting and challenging! Lots of learning curves but I couldn’t be happier!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been smooth… I would say the biggest challenge is finding reliable, trustworthy, help and letting go of my control issues, and trusting my girls to do their job!
This goes for getting clients to trust me in hiring a crew to detail their boat as well, a lot of owners want the “face of the business” but sometimes I am already booked up and it’s not doable!
Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in yacht and sportfish interior detailing. It focuses on boats that do not have a full-time crew. We come in and will do a full top-to-bottom clean, depending on what the owner or captain needs, We do anything from making up beds, and doing laundry, to even staging boats for brokers and their showings.
What sets us apart from other companies is that we bring yachting standards and service to all boats. The yachting community is known for its professionalism and attention to detail. I strive to make every boat perfect.
I am super proud that my business will be a year old in October and I have a full book of clients! One of my biggest clients is Viking Yachts at the Viking service center in Riviera Beach. I love what I do and I feel that every boat, no matter how big or small, old or new, should look exceptional.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is being a successful business owner, with a strong relationship with all my clients.
