Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadlie Charles.
Hi Nadlie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I was faced with many disadvantages due to growing up in a household with parents who migrated to a new city, state and country (Miami, FL) from Haiti. My parents worked extremely hard juggling 3 jobs each to ensure that our family had food on the table and a roof over our head.
My struggles and disadvantages were my stepping stool; motivating me to always put my best foot forward so that I can one day be in a position to assist the underserved and underprivileged little girls and boys who are facing many challenges that aren’t in their control. As a young adult I always knew that I wanted to focus on giving back and helping people, but couldn’t pinpoint in what capacity. During my teenage years I initially thought I wanted to be a nurse. After graduating high school, I enrolled into Miami Dade Community College and pursued a degree in pre-nursing. Within the first year and a half I was sold that my calling was to be a Registered Nurse, until being assigned to Jackson Memorial Hospitals Oncology floor to do my clinicals. I finished the program successfully, knowing this was not the path I wanted to continue. As I was in pursuit of continuing my education to obtain my BSN; at that moment my prayers were answered and I received a call from a local state representative seeking to hire a Legislative Assistant. I accepted the offer with open arms, not knowing what I was going up against. Within two weeks in my new role, I was responsible for putting together a food distribution for the district to provide food for 1000 households. During the event I was overwhelmed with excitement to see the humble gratitude from the residents in need, and it was at that moment I realized in what capacity I wanted to help and give back to others; I knew for a fact my calling was to be a public servant.
After hosting my very first event, I hosted countless others and decided to establish my nonprofit organization, which provides me with a bigger platform to assist those near and far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am presently within my organization wasn’t smooth one, but I always remind myself that what’s good doesn’t always come easy.
My biggest challenges along the way are finding support financially and getting individuals to volunteer.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
