Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizbeth Paiz.
Lizbeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was attending The Art Institute for web design & although computer & programming was not exactly where I wanted to head, I knew being in that school that designing & color was a definite yes in my career choice.
After a drastic life incident, I knew I had to take matters into my own hands which ultimately lead me to be a web design dropout. I signed up for cosmetology school to be a licensed full specialist esthetician soon after. Primarily to be able to understand the features of the face & texture to explore full depth in the world of a makeup artist.
I did my best to learn as much as I could in 6 months within that time, I grew the courage of applying for a dream job at MAC Cosmetics as a freelancer who also explored any job or gig that was at arm’s reach. It mainly came from help from my makeup instructor Jackie Jorge who pushed me to take the lead in many events where I knew I could gain exposure.
I’ve been in the position to not only be taught to be a makeup artist, but it also led me to then teach students at the very same school I was once a student attending. I’ve been a part of many special projects; from different aspects of multi-media. Short films, T.V., runway shows, commercials. & music videos
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s rarely smooth sailing, but that has given me the drive to always shoot higher.
Have been opportunities where I was underpaid, or simply not paid for work. You never know what you will expect whenever you are on set or in the settings where it’ll all take place.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a multi-media makeup artist, So I can specialize in anything whether that’s FX makeup, Airbrush, Body painting, Bridal, Glam, T.V., and film. I’m known for being diverse. I think that’s what sets me apart from the rest of my fellow peers.
I’m most proud of all my work but if I had to think of one particular one it would have to be my niece’s personal makeup artist, it gives me all the joy of seeing her grow up & how she’s transforming in front of my own eyes. Besides being diverse I think it’s ultimately the experience of creating I try & show anyone who’s sat in my chair.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be yourself and be willing to do things outside of yourself. Don’t be afraid of failing that’s where you learn the most.
