Community Highlights: Meet Roupen Aslanian of Arkimedes’ Circle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roupen Aslanian.

Hi Roupen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, gathering around the kitchen table was more than just dinner; it was where I heard my father’s latest day at the bank and how the world of finance worked. Everything from people to projects, big wins to colossal failures, I’ve heard it all during my youth.

Another prominent figure in my life was my grandfather, a man I’ve aspired to be just as successful. He retired younger than most after a decade spent as a treasurer of a French Bank branch in NY. During my college years, I would visit him for lunch once a week at his home. CNBC would be on in the background, and we would pass the time discussing current macroeconomic events.

As prepared as I may have been to enter the world of finance, the world was thrown a curve ball in 2008 with the Great Financial Crisis, which was the year I would graduate from college. Believing everything happens for a reason, I worked for a year at a restaurant where I fell in love with the hospitality industry. And in September of 2009, I was officially in Manhattan’s world of finance, working for Citigroup.

Over a decade of experience later, I have had the good fortune to be exposed to nearly every facet of data working as a Vice President in Citigroup’s Institutional Clients Group. I felt ready to start my own adventure in creating solutions to using data at the core. In the second half of 2022, I founded the company “Akimedes’ Circle” to deliver bespoke advice based on deep analytics.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As in every adventure, obstacles will always be in our professional and personal paths. However, I am, by nature, an eternal optimist. I see problems or obstacles as opportunities. It’s been my experience that people struggle when they don’t know which decision to make. I make it a habit to understand the world around me by learning all the facts supported by data.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in Corporate Strategy and Business Development with data analytics at the core. What sets us apart is the relationship we build with our clients; we aim to be their trusted advisors. And the biggest compliment is a referral; most of our clients are word of mouth. We are agnostic to industry and even deploy our expertise in the non-profit space to drive charitable giving and strategic partnerships.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Our purpose is to ensure our clients win; it’s the only way we win, achieving success together. I firmly believe in results, and with data, we are able to measure the impact we’ve made on our clients.
