Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Corzo.
Hi Alexandra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Bringing people together has been a passion of mine for as far back as I can remember. However, back when I was in school, Event Planning was only beginning to make its mark in the world and not yet recognized as a “major” or specialization. I opted to pursue another passion of mine in the world of Wellness and graduated in 2002 from the University of Florida with a degree in Dietetics & Nutrition.
Soon after graduation, I took on 2 jobs. One with a Registered Dietician and another with a Corporate Meeting Planner. Achieving financial independence while doing something I loved and was good at, was always my main goal.
It was then that I decided to venture out on my own and open up A-List Events, planning both corporate and social events. Next year will make 20 years since I started on the entrepreneurial path.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It certainly has not been a smooth road. While there are indeed many upsides to owning your own business, it also comes with its share of headaches. Aside from life’s twists and turns, I’ve had to figure out ways to survive both an economic recession and a global pandemic, all while raising 2 boys.
From renting out chocolate fountains to corporate gifting and delivery services, I’ve often found myself reframing my business plan to better serve the needs of my clients. Being your own boss means pivoting in every possible direction to keep afloat when times get tough, and they will.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
A-List Events is an event planning company focused on making our client’s vision for their special events a reality. We handle all the logistical legwork so that you don’t have to! “It isn’t just about ideas, but rather making those ideas happen”. One thing is a picture on Pinterest, and it’s a whole other skill set required to see how that photo will play out in real life.
You should know that event planning is not for the faint of heart. On the outside, it may look glamorous and seemingly instantaneous. Therein lies the art… it’s in making all the effort, appear effortless. Like there were no blood, sweat, or tears lost in the process, which anyone who has planned an event from beginning to end, knows is entirely untrue!
I’d say I’m known for keeping calm under pressure, my attention to detail, and my ability to manage multiple moving parts at any given time. I am also dependable and honest with all of my clients and vendors, and I work as an avid team player with a sole focus on ensuring the success of our client’s events.
I’d say what sets me apart from others is my ability to tailor each client’s event to reflect their style. To not only manage but rather exceed their expectations so that they can feel like a celebrity at their own event.
In the past, I’ve had the pleasure of working for brands like Norwegian Cruise Lines, Facebook, Instagram, Fox Latin America, National Geographic, Estee Lauder, Bacardi, and most recently Auberge Luxury Resorts. I would like readers to know that I not only plan corporate and social events in South Florida but also just recently expanded to plan Wellness Retreats in Costa Rica.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
You can ask my childhood friends and they’ll tell you, I am the absolute worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) influence when it comes to risk-taking simply because I’ve never operated from a place of fear. I mean, of course, you need to rationalize and think things through in a pragmatic, sensical way. But when it comes to entrepreneurship (as well as in life), you get what you give. And so far, everything I’ve invested, I’ve received in return, plus interest. You just can’t be so fixated on the money alone as if that were the only thing of value. Sometimes having a vendor pull through for you on a big favor at the eleventh hour, is the ultimate ROI. Advice on risk-taking: Remain goal-focused, meditate for clarity, weigh out if the benefit of any big decision will lead you closer to where you want to be…then make your move.
