Community Highlights: Meet William Shlifer of WilliamShliferTherapy and The Trauma Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to william shlifer.

william, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Dear to whom it may concern,

My name is William Shlifer and I have been a licensed psychotherapist for over 12 years in south Florida. I am also a certified and trained trauma therapist. I have learned and utilized a plethora of various trauma interventions, modalities, and strategies for healing, supporting, and challenging my patients. I have a working knowledge and expertise of neglect and abandonment, abuse of all kinds, betrayal episodes, mental health issues and the cycle of domestic violence as well as shame, self esteem issues, and inadequacy dynamics. Trauma encompasses many tenets. The common term used for trauma is PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder. Unresolved trauma is so much more than just PTSD as it has layers, levels, and dynamics which all must be treated. There are also triggers and trauma responses which need to be exercised and healed for the patient to operate in the world. I have been in private practice for about 3 years and have also worked at prestigious treatment centers which focused on substance use disorders, mental health, unresolved trauma, and process addictions. I have developed and facilitated specialized group therapy sessions/ tracks, healing retreats, and family interventions for over 6 years. I utilize inner child work, experiential methods, Gestalt, existential therapy, and solution focused therapy in my practice.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had my own personal struggles and trauma episodes throughout my life. My father passed away in 2015 and it crushed me. I had my own delayed, tumultuous, and extremely impacting response which effected many parts of my life. It became a turning point in my life during 2017 where I approached the world of trauma work. I was blessed enough to be mentored, trained, and supported for 4 years by Judy Crane who is a leader in the psychotherapy industry, thought leader, author, teacher, and owner of a high end trauma treatment center. I been in the field of psychotherapy for 15 years but been a trauma therapist at my core the last few years. I am also a married father of 2 young kids and live in Boca Raton. I enjoy Golf and spending time with friends.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a full-time private practice in Boca Raton, Fl where I work with my patients in a strong, comprehensive, and challenging way with support and motivation. My goal for my patients is for them to live their best lives but not to the level of perfection. I provide assignments that are thought provoking, emotional, and allow my patients to have relief and release. I believe in the viewing my patients as a team and we are working together. I also facilitate intense 3 day trauma retreats bi-monthly in a beautiful private place. I mold and develop a group of 8 to 10 co-ed participants. It is healing, powerful, and life changing per participant reviews and feedback. I been facilitating trauma group therapy retreats with Judy and at other treatment centers all over the country for 5 years as well. I work with all folks with broken hearts, barriers, unresolved issues, self esteem problems, PTSD, betrayal, grief and loss, and all other emotional painful episodes.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Take the time to truly learn, master, and develop your own style and vision. Be patient, listen, stay humble, be directable, teachable, and definitely have a core specialty besides being a licensed therapist or psychologist.
