Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayana Izquierdo.
Hi Dayana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all began 3 years ago, just before the pandemic lockdown. I didn’t have a car, I was still carrying student loan debt, and I had lost my employment at the time. We were all quarantined, which made it challenging to obtain stable employment. I felt as though I had hit rock bottom but I knew & felt confident in my ability to work hard and my willingness to take risks when necessary.
I didn’t have much to my name, but I did have an iPad with an Apple Pencil that my current partner gave me. I knew it was a gift of solace and assurance, despite the fact that things may be difficult now, everything will be okay soon enough. I took it as a sign, and to be honest, it inspired me. I began to doodle on this program called Procreate, I fell in love instantly and I had a general sense of being at home every time I would pick it up and draw.
After a few months, I opened an Instagram account to display all of my wonderful sketches and artwork, and soon after, I had my first actual paying customer & that trickled in more customers & therefore opened the door for DC by Dayana, which stands for digital creations by Dayana. I now have the opportunity to work with local small businesses in the comfort of my own home and or places where wifi is available, which is something I never believed I could accomplish before.
My objective is to work one-on-one with small business owners to create the branding designs of their dreams that are marketable, lasting, and cost-effective. With three years of experience and working with more than 200 growing companies, I can humbly and proudly identify myself as a self-taught graphic & web designer.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I mentioned, it wasn’t always sunshine and butterflies. Before deciding to start my own creative small business, I struggled after losing my previous job. I didn’t have any money to start my business, but I had a passion and knew I wanted to keep going regardless of what happened.
I always try to be the best role model I can be for my younger sister, who I have. I always tell her “The seeds you plant today will bear your fruit for tomorrow.” I knew that it would be a difficult challenge to navigate school and a business but nothing is impossible.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a 25-year-old Digital Illustrator & Graphic Designer who has fallen in love with web designing, and mockups & now specializes in the art of Logo designing & brand creation. My specialty is designing unique and modern, long-lasting logotype designs.
My turnaround time and general level of customer service are what differentiates me from the other designers; additionally, my clients consistently provide me with positive and encouraging feedback, which inspires me to continue following my dreams and working hard.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people don’t know about this but I used to be a dancer back in my high school days about 6-7 years ago. If I wasn’t doodling, I was breaking it down coming up with some crazy choreographies.
