Rising Stars: Meet Susan Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Gonzalez.

Hi Susan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
A friend asked me to accompany her to an audition for a backup dancer for Ish Ledesma formerly of the musical group, (Foxy). I was selected as one of the backup dancers for his solo career. After realizing that we were getting all the attention, Ish Ledesma formed the group (Company B). I started singing with the Freestyle group Company B in 1986.

We had a hit that reached 21 on Billboard’s dance chart and we were signed to Atlantic Records. We recorded an album and released it in 1987. Shortly after that, I left the group. Years later, I would return to the group and start performing in the United States and abroad. In 2013 I was able to obtain the trademark name and continue performing and making new music.

We have performed for Making Strides Against Cancer for 2 years and have walked for them for 4 years.  We have performed at the Coconut Grove Art Festival, the ’80s In The Sand, and Calle Ocho to name a few. Our music has been featured on Rupaul Drag Race and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Today we have new music out and are in the studio recording a new album.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer and entertainer. I love making people happy with our music.

We specialize in creating entertaining shows. We sing at Private events, festivals, Birthday parties, and Corporate events. We are known for our extravagant dance routines. We are proud of making our fans happy and keeping the music alive. We are known for our dazzling white wigs and outfits.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was shy growing up, however, I was always into something.

My dad was military and believed in staying busy. My dad always said, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop”. So I played the piano, sang, tap dance, ballet, swim team, track team, softball, girl scout, cheerleader, and tennis. My family liked to go camping and explore new places. I also was in Romper Room.
