Hidden Gems: Meet Elizabeth Corey of Vibrant Elephant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Corey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I used to be plagued by the stories I told myself, which created an imprisoning mindset that held me back in every aspect of my life. Every limiting belief and mental attitude tied to emotion was predetermined based on past circumstances. I was at war with myself mentally, and it was draining and powerful. But then I realized that I was responsible for my assumptions and attitudes towards handling and moving forward, not for the past events themselves. I changed my internal narrative from a VICTIM mentality of “Why is this happening to me?” to a VICTOR mentality of “How can I learn and grow from this?” This shift flipped the script on the stories of my life and charged my mindset.

Through working through past trauma and taking a step back, I found my authentic self and voice. It took me a decade to break free from the victim mindset and transition to a victor mentality, but that’s when I established the seed for my VOICE Confidence Coaching Program.

In short, when I started using my brain as a sponge and stayed in a constant state of learning, I earned degrees in Psychology and Biology, focusing on Chemistry and Neuroscience. I also gained experience in various fields, including Real Estate, CASA Court Appointed Special Advocate, Lifeguarding, Industry Casino Bartending, TimeShares, Medical Coding, Dental Field, Door to Door Sales, Beach Erosion Studies, Nutrition Sales and Certifications, Social Selling, Yoga Certifications, Continual education, Start Up Companies, and Patenting Designs. Combining all these experiences and life lessons, it started to click for me. However, it was only when I solved a simple riddle that everything came together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my first two decades of life, I existed more than I lived. I suffered from “learned helplessness,” a concept from psychology that resulted from cultural and projected programming from others’ ways, such as parents, teachers, and preachers, during my childhood. It left me with a fixed or pre-installed mindset of how my life was supposed to be. I often heard negative stories about how my life was stacked against me since birth, leaving me feeling trapped in a mental prison cell. Life is the longest game one will ever play, and at times, I wanted to give up.

The struggles, stories, setbacks, and systems I encountered repeatedly failed me during the first 28 years of my life. These 4S’s are at the backbone of both my story and VEM Coaching. Let’s keep this article short and hit a few key points.

During my early years on this floating rock, from 0-8, many circumstances occurred on my pathway that left me pondering, “Why me?” or “What did I do to get this hand?” In reality, these were blessings or lessons that needed to be experienced to propel me onto the other side of the railroad tracks. A struggle can be defined as an obstacle, circumstance, unforeseen event leaving behind destruction or adversity. Some of my struggles included being in foster care, molested by multiple men, attending six different school systems, being separated from my sibling forever, being adopted, relocating to a new state, witnessing death, and more.

Lacking confidence and coping mechanisms fueled many addictive behaviors that started innocently in childhood, such as eating my emotions. These addictive tendencies grew as I aged. However, building and helping entrepreneurial women find their authentic voice and grow their confidence stemmed from within me. From a very early age, I felt that there was a missing puzzle piece somewhere, which kept me searching.

Adventures are similar to puzzles, ideally bringing pleasure and happiness, wouldn’t you agree? During the first 28 years of my life, I felt a void inside, the missing puzzle piece. Endless adventures, addictive tendencies, and aimless goals satisfied my temporary happiness and pleasure.

Have you ever sat down to do a 500 or 1000 piece puzzle and got to the very end only to find that you’re missing ONE piece of the puzzle to complete the masterpiece? All that time and effort wasted, leaving you unfinished, incomplete, useless. Well, that’s how my story played out for over 25 years.

If you’ve ever felt that way, then this article is for you! It aims to inspire, ignite, and provide insight for you to intuitively see beyond those 4S’s.

A story can be described as a circumstance that you repeatedly tell yourself, which places a limiting belief on the possibility of changing or altering the past circumstance. This mindset kept me feeling like a victim, trapped within the confines of my own thoughts. I often felt discouraged and inferior to those around me, leading me to isolate myself and repress my emotions. This, in turn, led me to seek temporary relief through various addictive behaviors and tendencies. While this worked for a time, the relief was always fleeting, and my emotions would inevitably come back with a vengeance. No amount of dating, shopping, drinking, vomiting, starving, partying, traveling, studying, cleaning, organizing, exercising, or isolating myself could solve this mental struggle. Even receiving a DSM-V diagnosis did not bring me any long-term relief. It seemed like there was no solution in sight to fill the void or missing puzzle piece in my life.

The mysterious missing puzzle piece had been hidden inside of me all along! Realizing this fact blew my mind wide open to the 4S’s – Struggles, Stories, Setbacks, and Systems – that I had failed at time and time again. The mental warfare I was experiencing was really just me fighting against different versions of myself, from Liz0.9 to Liz1.0 to Liz1.3 to Liz3.14, each with its own set of viruses from older versions.

For years, I had convinced myself that I was unworthy, incapable, inferior, too fat, too thin, not smart enough, too smart for certain things, too tall, too short, unloved, misunderstood, different, and unique. I didn’t believe in my own abilities, and the only truth I had ever told myself was a false construct.

Puzzles are an essential part of our development, and it’s only when we identify the shape of the missing piece that we can begin to search for it. Every doubt, obstacle, circumstance, limiting belief, false construct, and unfair condition – as well as every positive experience – led me to where I needed to be in order to open up about my struggles.

Finally, I found the missing piece when I connected with those who radiated the light of abundance and a victor mentality. It was like I had eaten a mushroom in Super Mario Brothers – I was leveling up.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Absolutely! In this article, I mentioned the 4S’s and VOICE Confidence Coaching as tools and a skill set to achieve the missing puzzle piece quickly and ideally with less pain – this is the biggest accomplishment one can achieve! Building a community of entrepreneurial women who support and transform one another has been not only a blessing but also a God-given opportunity.

I never imagined that I would be able to leave that negative headspace and help other women by using my own experience, strength, and hope. Here at Vibrant Elephant Mindset, I create legacy leaders of women who overcome their struggles, stories, setbacks, and systems, rise above independently, and then reach back to help others.

In VOICE Confidence Coaching, each client and I work together to build a tailored action plan for her new reality. Many of my clients, although not all, have previously experienced similar “Learned Helplessness” to what I experienced. Together, with humble hearts, we are able to rekindle that lost connection with the universal charge that creates abundance. Who could have known that this would be my career journey on the path to a happy destiny!

Entering into new relationships with these women is always exciting from the start. It’s almost as if they have been dropped into my journey to begin their own personal journey. We create unbreakable bonds and there is transparency and vulnerability on both sides, and we learn from one another along the way.

Have you ever taken a moment to contemplate the relationship between faith and fear? These two concepts are more closely intertwined than one might imagine; both stem from a source of Power Greater than ourselves, and the only way to understand them is through belief. We can never physically touch or fully comprehend the magnificence of either one. However, it is impossible to hold both thought processes in our minds simultaneously, meaning that if one is present, the other is fading away. My mind was blown when I finally grasped this concept.

Belief has become the foundation of creating a happy and healthy personal and global experience for those who interact with me. Working with clients is based on honesty, trust, and openness to generate light that can shine into the darkness that once plagued their souls, as it did mine. Today, I can confidently declare that “I possess the skills to free myself from the prison walls of my own mind, and the knowledge to help others do the same!”

The power of faith can change us, help us grow, forgive, ask for guidance and seek help in times of darkness or light. It takes strength to be vulnerable and open, but it is crucial to free the soul and help others with our experiences. Being vulnerable allows the darkness that has ridden holes in our souls to be released, setting us free.

Working with women from all around the world via the internet, I often discuss how the human brain is wired similarly to a computer. The answers are always there, it just takes time to unravel and untangle the clues. And here’s a free fact: genius leaves clues! Habits, actions, and thoughts are all patterns that leave a trail or blueprint to follow. Together with clients, we work backward and create a new blueprint forward, riding the blueprint of any viruses.

VOICE Confidence Coaching is a ‘Do With You Program,’ and each client’s experience is unique because each human journey varies, and each brain has a unique print. The beautiful bliss in all of this is the fact that the human brain can be rewired if we truly want it to be! The analogy I use to explain this inside the training module is pretty simple. Take a plastic bag and stretch it out. Now try to force it back to its original shape. Is it possible? No, it is not. Each time we learn something new using a certain set of parameters, it generates a new neural pathway inside the brain. Over time, the brain deepens this pathway, the same way the plastic bag stretches.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Absolutely! Without a doubt, it truly does take a village to raise a child and a lifetime of people to influence a leader and victor. The impact of those who have entered my life is immeasurable. From the earliest days of my adoption, the caseworker and lawyer who told me to aim for the moon and land amongst the stars, even when my biological parents did not show up for visits, planted a seed that has grown throughout my life. My adoptive parent, my grandmother, was always there, loving me from a distance, never giving up hope that the light would one day shine in my life. She raised me with no blood connection, but her wisdom and insight from her era paired with a new adoptive family has shaped me into the person I am today.

In my darkest moments, a therapist in rehab shared with me that drinking and drugs were not the solution to my temporary problems. So many people have entered my life for a reason, season, or lifetime and each one has played a massive role in my growth as a person. The lessons they taught me don’t always become clear when they are present, sometimes it can take years to fully understand and solve the lesson plan.

My mentors, in the form of employers and bosses, the training they provided, and the books they recommended, have had a profound impact on my life. Studying under great mindset coaches, such as the late Bob Proctor and Tony Robbins, has been life-changing for me.

But perhaps the greatest influence in my life has been my partner (husband), Chris. He entered my life when I least expected it and has proven to be my biggest cheerleader. Whenever I doubt myself, he lifts me up and keeps me pushing forward. The universe has a funny way of teaching us lessons, and it’s up to us to find the humor and enjoy the journey.

And then there is London Harvey, my LaPom. He is the one who saved me from it all. There have been many hardships in my life, and this little furball has been through a ton. One might say he has taught me the meaning of unconditional love. His story is another book in itself – “The Dog Who Saved The Girl.”

I am grateful for each and every person and pet who has entered my life and helped shape me into the person I am today. The impact of these individuals and experiences is immeasurable, and I hope to pay it forward by being a positive influence in the lives of others.
